Southern Air Interview
#831
About four years ago, Southern Air had a bunch of guys they had interviewed and told they were in a pool. They entered Chapter 11 Bankruptcy a couple of weeks later, and never communicated with the poolees again, as far as I know. Things are different now; no bankruptcy looming, and pilots in short supply, but corporate America can be a very cold place.

Again, I will reiterate, Atlas/southern is a bad slot machine that will never pay out. Youre better off at the roulette table. Save your time, career, and efforts to a company that gives a sh/t about their pilots. Cant say it enough.......

Sorry, but is it fair to tell others don't do it but you remain?

I think it's kinda like a scared straight program. While he may currently be incarcerated by Atlas he is trying to steer others from a bad life. I am sure the poster is actively seeking employment elsewhere. Up until recently he was probably happy with his Atlas experience. Recent events may have changed his outlook.

Sure it's fair. He should also be appreciated for warning others away from his situation. Would you rather he enticed pilots to come to Atlas/Southern when the bottom is about to fall out? C'mon, read up on what is going on over here.
Even if you are a desperate regional pilot looking for a stepping stone to get out of your rut, the Atlas stone may well give way as soon as you put weight on it and you'll find yourself with no job at all to stand on.

Seriously? Are you "feel in' the Bern."
That place has gone down hill almost overnight, so many who had high hopes just a couple months ago are hoping to escape. That said, not too many with a family and mortgage are in a position to simply resign, as you suggest.

If one is unemployed, then you might have a point.
If one has a job, the people who are in a position to know are telling you that you don't want to quit it and go to Atlas (nee Southern).
And for those who are out of work, the opportunities for enjoying livable wages, upgrades, and flow-throughs at regional carriers have never been better. So why seek out known moderate or worse turbulence, when there are plenty of chances to operate in smooth air?
Nobody is trying to trick you, and keep all the good flying for themselves. Its a constant, universal warning to avoid Atlas because current and forecast conditions are not favorable.
