I know of two 777 guys that went back to regional flying. It seems some go to LCC, some to majors, and some to other ACMI. Also throw in a handful to contract/intl work.
Yes, 40 days is possible but maybe would only happen 2-3 times a year? More likely is 25 -30 days on with bid conflicts. But typically that is followed with 18-22 days off with GDOs and reserve at home. You can work the blended reserve/schedules to be on the road for maybe 16-17 days sometimes. It's not that bad, but not for everyone. Keep in mind your travel days are a part of the 20, I understand at some gateway based carriers it is not, so may end up near similar to Southern's home basing.

Lear,
Regarding 50 day trips, it'll be maybe 35/36 at most. I just got back from a 4-lap 25 day trip, and that was a back to back because of a bid conflict... But following that was 10 off, 10 on, 10 off, which isn't bad...
About home reserve, here's the thing... If your reserve days are BEFORE your trip, they'll likely keep you home until your scheduled trip starts (unless they need you).If those days are between or after your trip, they will likely not send you home. Here's why- the minute you return to base you have to be released to base rest. Our regs that we operate under required twice the hours rest as hours flown since your last rest period, which in some cases can be your full 10 days. That means they can't legally touch you. So if you fly a full 2-3 lap rotation, you're useless to them for at least 3 days the minute you get back to base. Granted, I have had times where I get back to CVG, had 3 RSV days then days off, and they sent me home early. Those pretty much become free days off. Its a 20 on/10 off schedule, but it's not uncommon for that to turn into something like 16 on/14 off... On the other had, days off can not really mean anything if you have reserve days in front of them. If you're sitting RSV in CVG and only have 2 days before you go home, they can put you on a 4+ day trip and fly you on days off (pays an extra 4hrs per day though). In short, whether or not you go home on reserve days depends on which way the wind is blowing that day.

SouthernAir has added CFR121 Flag & Domestic OpSpecs to their certificate. It's just one more small step to operating like a real airline. If you are interviewing you can use that as a topic of discussion if asked if you have any questions. It doesn't make a big difference on the 777 side but it will on the 737 for crew rest and alternate fuel requirements.

I heard they will hire more pilot for both aircraft 737 & 777, but I only heard it from someone who work there... could it be rumor? I don't know but thats what he said..
