I was hired with no military time, no international time, and no heavy time. Just trying to give a glimmer of hope for those of you that are like me!

Mox Nix,

I applied in March, background is B-1, T-37/T-6 and E-11. 3700TT, 2500PIC. I took the test today, that was hard to get thru 100 questions in 60 min but I passed. Very excited for the opportunity, hoping for the best! I retire in September. Good luck to all those interviewing and congratulations to those hired!

Danam and bjack...did you have rock solid contacts and Rec's? sounds amazing!

I've only been after it for a year now so hopefully the 121/jet time I'll get soon will help.

I was an RJ FO with 300 hours 121 PIC, no contacts, no rec's. Right time/right place, I suppose. Since then, I've recommended a number of guys with great quals - mil, cargo, longtime RJ CAs. Some have been called, others ignored. The hiring process is opaque at best, and typically the worst part is when you're in the pool, watching class after class get filled, with no idea where you stand.

This thread is a great resource for answering questions about the process. But getting the initial call from HR, or the call out of the hiring pool, remain complete mysteries to anyone except HR.

Also, some seismic shifts are on the way. Anybody hired into the 747 before the 767 seat locks begin to expire in September needs to understand that they'll be locked into ANC for three years, and even with the company buying tickets, that commute - on your days off - is going to suck.

The 767 may pay 17% less beginning in year two, but at least there will be movement every time we hire.

I, like everyone else in my class, had a benefactor. Without him, probably no chance I would've been called. But you just never know, that's my point.

I was at Trans States...but not never flew there as furloughed after training. I was also at USAJet, a -121 supplemental, which some people considered better than a regional and some considered it worse.

For me, Atlas is a lot better than both of the above.

I am sure with your military experience, American, Delta, FedEx, Southwest, Hawaiian, United, or UPS would snap you up in a heartbeat and you would be better off for it.
NOT TRUE at all! It DEPENDS. There are MANY mil pilots that will not even consider Atlas, because they don't want to be gone 17 days. There are other Mil guys that have Atlas as their #1 choice, because of the flying we do, and there are still other mil guys that could take or leave Atlas. And, the same is true for regional guys...some do not consider Atlas, and for some it's their 1st choice, and everything in between.

I just flew with a recently retired mil guy. He wanted Atlas, or DAL/AA/UAL/FedEx, and applied at all of them. He could only get hired at Republic. Was there about 7 months, then got picked up at Atlas. While he has other resumes out, he hasn't updated his applications anywhere since he came to Atlas. He said he is waiting to see what the new contract is like. If it is much better than what we have now, he is staying. If it is marginally better than our current contract, he will update his stuff at AA/DAL/UAL and leave if they hire him.

Atlas is not horrible, and it is not fantastic...it mostly depends on what you are looking for..for some of the Atlas pilots here, it is a very good job, and to others it is only a (planned) stepping-stone to a better job.

I would encourage you not to be turned off by the negative talk, and also not to be "kool-aided" by the positive talk. Do the research, read this whole thread, plus the other threads on the other message boards, talk to Atlas guys on the road, or by PM, and if you think Atlas is a viable option for you, then apply. If you get hired, and it turns out you don't like it, then the experience at Atlas should put you in a better position to get a better job elsewhere.

God Bless and namaste

Just looked at photos and info on the E-11..had never heard of it...it looks like a very interesting aircraft!

It is a communications aircraft based on the Bombardier Global Express.

Default ANC jumpseat

After the office staff has gone home, and nobody answers the doorbell, what is the best way to get in the building for a jumpseat?

Thanks

Jim

Wait for the crew to show up at the building assuming you know where that is. We're picked up two hours prior to departure from the hotel and usually are at the entry within a few minutes after that.
