this is a great website for researching train options in Japan.
HyperDia | ???? ???? ??? ???? ??? ???????

i recently took the bullet train from Hiroshima to Tokyo, then the Narita Express to NRT, instead of waking up at 3 am to fly coach on ANA (biz class was sold out) . it was awesome, rode the bullet train for 5 hours and enjoyed every minute, and i guarantee i'd be the first to get lost. there's always someone around who speaks English and can point the way.

Thanks. That is very helpful.

I managed to get lost on a train system once -- in England. However there was a very senior Captain involved, so I think that I was a victim.

Just heard that the 767 will become the "entry" airplane for ALL new hires very soon (as it should be).

Yes, almost immediately (heard from MIA instructor, so we shall see...). Maybe a majority of the PRIA requests are coming in for 767 pilots? :-)

Just got the call for the 5/19 class!

I can't express enough my gratitude to those who took the time to put the excellent information on here. Look forward to life around the grill for the next couple of months!

And for those wondering about my experience, 6,900 TT, 1,200 TPIC, all civilian regional time. I started applying in Oct 2010 as 0 TPIC FO with two internal LOR's. Went to WIA in 2013, and updated my résumé and PAQ about every 3 months or every time they reopened their hiring. Received the link to the test on 1/30, took it on the 2/2, phone screen on the 2/3, interviewed on the 2/12, pool letter on 2/27.

YMMV

Good luck to all those currently applying. Feel free to email of you've got questions about the test or interview experience. I'll be happy to pay it forward. [email protected]

Would love to see it. I made the mistake of checking out where I'd fall in the ANC 747 FO bids. Much better relative seniority compared to CVG 767, and more money to boot. 20 more months to go...

Congratulations to all those having Atlas success! So great to see fellow hopefuls put in the efforts necessary to get on and have success at it! Brings a virtual tear to my eye even to see you guys/gals paying it forward! That is the Atlas way.

For those not quite there yet, have hope, as you can see persistence pays off.

Word is that there will be a class of about 12 (aircraft to be determined) every 3 weeks for at least the next 3 months and as for the 74 side there is more work than there are airplanes to do it. Lots of "more 767" rumors as well, the charter stuff is picking up and they get to go to all sorts of interesting places.

Thank you to those that have said kind words for us information disseminating forum geeks. It is very nice of you to say.

I went from NRT TO NGO. Just go to the JR desk and they will be able to help. Key words: narita express, shinagawa station (changeover point from press to,shinkashen train), nagoya. Make sure the ticket starts in Narita so you can take the hotel shuttle to Narita Station. The guy understood English well enough that he gave me 2 different prices based on class. Regular class or Green car (business class) I got mine in the airport terminal. I bought tickets for 3 of us in about 5 minutes.

Mins lowered several times... seems that the mil & regional guys have the edge here vs furloughed/unemployed AMCI guys that know how much better they had it than what Atlas's swiss cheese CBA provides. Just an observation on who is being hired lately, maybe I am wrong.
