Atlas Air Hiring
#6442
First time poster in this thread. I admit to have not carefully analyzed all 643 pages but I did go back about a month and have a few questions/clarifications so please don't beat me up too bad if this was asked 50 pages ago.
1. Does Atlas have any love for us pointy nose guys or has previous hiring heavily favored guys from big jets? I know we just put an A-10 driver through PIT who had to leave early for his 747 training at Atlas -- just curious if he's the norm or the exception. Atlas likes to hire from a variety of sources. Apply because you'll never know.
2. Do I understand the basing correctly? Home domicile, they buy you a ticket to a gateway and once at a gateway you're on the clock? I ask this since I love where I live but the airlines don't like San Antonio's crappy 28 gate airport apparently... After 10 moves for me, and 4 schools for my 7th grader I'd REALLY like to never move again. Ever. SAT would be a "gateway". The junior base right now is Anchorage so it would be a long commute to/from. Hunstville normally goes junior so that would be a good option. Houston is very senior both on the CA and FO side. You are "on the clock" when the trip starts or reserve period starts.
3. Your hourly pay seems to be fairly close to the majors, how does that equate to your annual pay? You will be paid higher at a major and your seniority most likely will go further too. Your schedules will also be a bit kinder for kids at home.
I've got a bunch of other questions but I'd like to pace myself a bit and also spend some more time reading the thread before I get into any more detail.
Thanks!

MikeF16: we had an f18 guy (2800hrs). He flew the C12 as his final Tour to get back in a cockpit and show recency. He did well. In fact ,ran into a number of fighter guys who had been around for a while. Shouldn't be a issue.
Testing: post 2808, hint hint, wink wink.........the header on the ATP is in Spanish but the questions are in English. It might be a good think to have handy on good reader. Just my .02.
JT400: there isn't enough beer for me to say thank you enough. Lovin it here. Already flew around the world. Yes there are some things to get used to, but I wouldnt trade this for anything. My next delta flight will make me silver level. Gold here i come. I was really stressed trying to figure out what to do today so I went for a 25 mile bike ride on the ANC trail system. Absolutely magnificent. Now for F St with some former classmates from MIA. Going to be hard to stay under the per diem rate.

Flying the line is treating you rough. Real sorry to see that. While staying on top of the reading whenever the next hiring wave, I have learned that long-haul flying requires one to stay hydrated to be at a peak performance level.
Glad you are still maintaining peak.
Cheers and fair winds....

On the other hand, at Atlas, you can get enough days off in a row to actually do things at home and you can get full weekends off here and there whereas, it might be years before you can do that at a major. That's worth some of that extra pay right there in my book. Just for perspective's sake.
When I'm home, I do things like take the kids to DisneyWorld, not putz around the kitchen checking loads for the commute to the next trip that starts in Atlanta in 3 days..... YMMV.

A standard 4 on 3 off can be nice for consistency/regular style schedule. But like you said, that 3 days off can feel VERY short/compressed and grind you down at times. It can be hard to cram your off time obligations/activities/hobbies into that time period.

It looks like AAWW (Through Titan) quietly acquired two more 777's in July. I wonder who the customer is?
“In addition, we are executing a strategic plan that leverages our core competencies. In July, we acquired our second and third 777 freighters for our Dry Leasing business. Each of our 777s was acquired with a long-term customer lease in place with a leading operator in the airfreight industry. These investments enhance our position in an attractive aircraft type, and they generate predictable, long-term revenue and earnings streams.”
