The two gear trucks that are on the fuselage of the 747 (all generations) have an unlock feature that turn those gear truck opposite to the turn...thereby, it swings the tail around and helps facilitate the turn.

If the unlock mechanism is inoperative, what you witnessed could be the result.

The first time I thought he was going off into the grass. The nose wheel looked to be close to full right, but they kept going essentially straight. Eventually it grabbed and they made the turn. The same thing happened on the remaining turns to the runway. The pavement was dry, and the taxi speed seemed normal to us, but maybe it was too fast? Is this something that a 74 does, or was this poor piloting?
I've heard that only 4% of the weight of a 747 is on the nose wheel so it's very easy to skid the nose wheel if going to fast around a corner, but it's only hear say.

I don't know the magic formula for getting the phone interview, but they seem to cast a fairly wide net. Based on what I've seen with my interview group and the classes I've met, I'd say about 50% RJ guys, 25% mil and 25% cargo, plus an occasional corporate guy. Mostly RJ captains, but several FOs (some with 121 PIC, some with none). Most have lots of time, even the FOs were 5-7 year guys, at least. I think guys with previous int'l/cargo/heavy time get called up sooner, but I know an RJ FO with no PIC who got called a heckuva lot sooner than I did. Do as well as you can in every phase of the interview process to shorten your pool time. I don't know if it helps, but I'd get some face time if HR goes to a job fair.

Any idea if Atlas will be at the OBAP fair in August? I should be there, and I'm really looking forward to the face time. Thanks! Hope to see you all online!

Default What will happen with the current Tech Test??

Sooooo since "That Guy" who came up with the online tech test is now history (says the Thread 10 or so pages back), has anyone in the know heard if "that" Tech Test will still be used or will they come up with something new with new rounds of interviews and hiring picking up? Have studied long and hard for the current Tech Test. A "new" test might mean a whole new and exciting studying adventure...Yaaaayy!!
