580, that's the 400 of the Convair world. I was lugging 5 gallon cans of 60 weight oil out on the wing of a 440.

That or I think it is a super sonic jet used to fly trans-Atlantic flights back in the 80's and 90's...

A mans airplane, nothing was automatic, if you didn't do it nothing would happen and we liked it that way.

The airline industry should have followed that engineering model.

Oh that's cute, it has a steering wheel! All joking aside, I have only heard wonderful things about that plane. Great to still see them in and out of Miami! Sorry the retirement list is causing turmoil amongst the different age groups at Atlas. If it makes the older guys feel better, I heard a rumor from one of the new flight attendants who was told by the new scheduler that there was a Convair flight manual floating around Purchase, NY. We must be getting a new fleet type soon. Rock solid sources

+1

These kids will never know what it was like to fly fabric covered, open cockpit, radial engine contraptions with PROPELLORS! Heck, We used to take off every night overweight ... with snow up to here ... uphill ... one turning and one burning ... climbing out onto the wing to kick the ice off in the storm ... with the plane flat on its back ... and ... er ... flack so thick you could get out and walk on it ... cough ... where's my geritol ... ?
