That is smart, my non-airline brain can't see beyond the "its a long flight" aspect of possibly being based up there.
Unless you have good seniority to have the base that you want and days you want off, there is always compromise you have to make. I always value getting specific days off. The commute does suck, buts it’s worst for me sitting at the very bottom of base seniority list and also getting the least desirable schedule because you were at the very bottom.
This a little off topic but I was told by an Atlas Captain that a Memphis base would be opening due to the amount of FedEx cargo that Atlas hauls. With the way FedEx is hiring a pilot just needs to walk down the hall to the CP's office.
MEM opened recently as a base. It is a small base.
Sure. Just walk on down the hall.
Miss HSV, hopefully DSV keeps screwing things up and we can re-open HSV (not holding my breath), it was such a great deal for many of us nearby. Low flow, great lines to Europe, Middle East and back thru the Far East then home. Quite the smattering of interesting/great food flying. MEM looks quite a bit cookie cutter with decent flying hours but really just a scheduled cargo shuttle of to&fro FedEx norm. Some will like it, some won’t. Personally not my cup of tea if you will - for now as things change rapidly.
