I don’t want to go to American, Delta or United.... Selected all three to see what other reasoning/logic you might conjure up besides the myopic skeleton comment/cancer analogy. This gig happens to work for myself like so many here. As for myself: Not getting rich anytime soon very true but we do very well, long haul international travel (family in Europe/Far East) , but no jump seat pressure, no crash pads, no pax related headaches 95% of flights; therefore, truly living where I desire. I also lived overseas and enjoy the worldwide travel which is specifically geared to me. Big 3 could never meet or match what works for me and international flying would be late in the game and wash rinse repeat at best - good $ to travel on my own time I guess. Big 3 are perfect for the majority is my guess and that is great, TiredSoul has it correct. Different strokes for different folks, some people can be up-beat, positive, happy, etc. and there are those will who never ever be any of the aforementioned traits and it is what it is and that’s OK. Plenty of my friends have moved on and some are happy and more than I thought are not as the side was greener but not utopia as many have declared on APC. 2020 Pandemonium - Most of my military buds were more than happy to go screaming back to their units to secure employment for 3-5 years (future impact was unknown then), gain retirement points and collect half of their airline pay. Great move on their part and most of them don’t miss the ground hog day lifestyle of flying domestic commercial AND keeping up with flying mil aircraft and their other mil duties... Now they just have the one lane and get paid for nothing by the other. Good for them and that’s their happy place for now, more power to them.

Agree with your “people are weird especially when it comes to family love and money.” Not all are weird, you must seek to understand and then to be understood. But your right: Even weird is sometimes an understatement.

Thx AboveMins and your choice of titles is quite unique and apropos, at least for myself. Always prefer wx above mins and prefer living above minimums and not below of course. Like I mentioned before it works well for many and there most definitely need to be improvements which is undeniable. This gig is definitely not for everyone crossing multiple time zones/ 7, 10, 13, or more hours at a time gone 17 days or more, it definitely has its moments I kid you not. On the other hand multi-leg point to point domestic pax carrying with early departures or continuous late night red-eye flying and gone for only 3, 4, 5 days seems nice but having only a few days off in between and commute again isn’t for me specifically. (You live in domicile I totally get it, super plus). Just to mix my schedule up on occasion I will do a 60 day line with 3 shorter trips and less time off, but having 2 weeks off or more (19 days off this time, it just worked out) to fully forget about my profession does wonders psychologically. Hub turns aren’t for me either, but many enjoy sleeping in their own beds regardless if it’s during the day and they do stay home longer than I truthfully. We all have our priorities and I bet you can always find several folks on any of these airline forums anguishing about something particular within their outfit (rightfully so of course )Hopefully we can keep raising the bar and bring each other up in all areas. Apologies for dragging on, but it’s a lifestyle review from one meager cog in this environment.

Bottom Line is that everyone here is frustrated knowing this place has the potential to be the best place in the world to so called work, it all boils down to each of us holding that “winning lottery ticket!” You just make what you want of it, that’s all.

The exception doesnt negate the rule. Most pilots want the big 3 and most of those that dont make it there is a reason for it. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Some guys are chubby chasers but deep down inside we all know that there is no big beautiful woman. Men want youth and beauty.

If all you care about is youth and beauty, add a prenuptial agreement as well.

Interesting insights. I hated commuting to the crashpad and using an off day to commute up to or from ewr when I first started at Xjt. I hope to get on the 767 and see what those schedules are like. With the contract being up for modification who knows what god might come with the changes to improve things.

The Big 3 hasn’t been ruling as long as you might believe but definitely as long you have noticed the Last 3 so far. The analog clock reference was a nice touch so your correct = Timing is everything. It’s really the Big 3 plus 2 (FedEx/UPS) for the majority for the past 2 decades or thereabouts. Who were/was/is United, Delta and American who merged from six or more previously and like this history has proven, not enough chairs at the table or were there too many chairs - your choice. Pan Am and TWA before that and the list goes on. Southwest came blazing into the most wanted list and is still revered as one of the best. None of the American carriers hold a candle to many foreign carriers regarding service, but up front they are doing very well again since 2012 pay hike recovery after 9/11. But the best part, this past decade is the first time anyone can choose where you want live and then the Airline that serves your domicile of choice so you have that going for you which is nice! Regardless of youth or beauty, you must find the least amount of crazy to survive.

Note: You specifically mentioned American initially and I hope you get there or maybe you have been there for 10+ years already and I do hope your happy, content, etc as I.

There’s nothing like it, especially in the cargo world. Creature comfort wise: Uniforms hanging right at cruise. Fat Pilot bathroom right near the galley when catering goes South, Rooms not bunks (no sleeping on the floor or climbing into the ceiling or building your floor quarters out of seat cushions), Business seats (some more comfortable than others), and best of all no door blocking you from that adult bathroom, galley, or rest area. No FA’s required. Gentle Giant.

Contract wise, we can only hope. Just a thought - If the pilots AND management are mad about the outcome, then it probably will be a decent contract. The cards will fall where they may, it is what it is by Fall perhaps...
