Hey fellas, those of you that have gone through training recently.. Does training start at the beginning of the month or mid month? Trying to get an idea, as I'm in the hiring pool. Thanks in advance!

So I've been hearing lately
Stressed carrier and distressed carrier status for atlas.

Due to numerous serious incidents, and numerous minor incidents.

Sounds like you'll be greeted in the sims and online more often by the Feds

We’ve hired many pilots with the bare minimum. I’ve been on their OE flights and let me tell you I’ve never been so frightened in an airplane in my life. The inexperience definitely shows; hence, the distressed carrier comments. You can definitely get hired with your qualifications but I pray for the safety of my friends and myself that you at least have some jet time. Also, the whale-sized enthusiasm will be smacked out of your orbit after 3 months on the line. Welcome aboard, Captain Ahab.

No jet time, all Alaska 135, with a little bit of down south PC12 experience. I had a good discussion with a super senior Atlas pilot that I was camped next to at Oshkosh. He was quite concerned about the current state of new hires and lack of general airmanship ability in the current crop as well. His exact words will not be posted to protect innocent ears (eyes?)

Anyways, I feel it would be an excellent opportunity to segue myself into the 121 cargo world. After chucking bags, mail, soda pop, and everything else under the rainbow doing 10+ IFR legs a day transitioning to 3-4 landings a month sounds pretty decent. We all know perception is much different than reality however.

Anyone care to break down pay? How much did you make the first 5yrs? Trying to decide if it would be a wise decision to jump into what sounds like a dysfunctional family, for my family.

I would say as a regional captain, particularly if you get the 767, it's about even money. If you have a few years of seniority with vacation and so forth, you may actually lose money on the deal. It would probably take you at least 3 years to catch up. And that was before the increases of late. With all the nonsense going on, it's a calculated risk. I would only say it's a good idea for:

1. Regional FO's with no upgrade in sight. Upgrade at Atlas is currently 3-5 years from what I understand.

2. Regional CA's whose future is bleak and are not getting noticed. I took a chance that a widebody type rating at Atlas would help me get noticed elsewhere and it seemed to work. UPS and FedEx both sent notice to Atlas that they intend to have as much as 25% of all new hire guys be Atlas pilots.
