Hello All and thanks in advance. I just got the call to come interview and was told they are only hiring for the 767. I currently live in Anchorage and was kind of hoping to be based there!
With that being said I am trying to get an idea of what life would be like on the 76 living in ANC.
How does gateway travel work? Would I travel on day 1 and home (home being ANC) on day 17? Or will I essentially be working 19 days on because of travel on either side?
Is it possible to bid over to the 74 from the 76?
Any advice is appreciated!

You'd be essentially gone 19 days if you were to do a 17 day pattern and 21 days if you had two smaller patterns in a month.
You'd be seat locked on the 76 for 3 years. Your first year would definitely be hell, if not all first 3.

That sounds pretty awful.... sounds like I will be turning down the interview unless there is hope for the 747.

In your case you probably wouldn't use Gateway because you'd be bidding trips that start with dead heads to Asia going through ANC. Any time you use Gateway you travel on what we call "Day 0" and "Day 18" which aren't paid. That does mean 19 days of work a month with two of them being unpaid. You would be using the hotel that comes with it and that will cost you a ton of money in taxes.
As for transitioning to the 747... If things continue at this rate you'd be able to bid Captain on the 747 in 3 or 4 years in ANC. You might skip the right seat on the 747 all together. ANC is probably the 2nd best base at Atlas if you want to live in base. Seat locks are 3 years, UNLESS you can hold Captain.

It wouldn't be all that bad getting to work because you could always just jump on company aircraft. Once you got some seniority you could simply bid trips that start with a dead head to Asia. Those usually transit ANC on their way.

It was 3 years, not sure if it still is.
So think about this;
Say you're hired on the 76. A guy is hired the week after on the 74.
After the year 1 pay, that 74 guy junior to you has more earning potential for almost a FULL TWO YEARS.
And just going on hourly rate and not wh0ring yourself out, it's out of your control....
