Atlas Air Hiring
Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to put out some info from a relatively new guy here. Was in the Aug 17 767 class, started and finished OE in November and been flying the line December til now. Just got awarded a regular 60-day line for Mar and Apr (meaning not reserve)....so basically AMA and I'll do my best to answer or point you in the right direction.
Couple of pointers
1st and foremost.....Read and/or do a thorough search of this thread for the answers you seek. It's all here and it's what I used as my primary pulse on Atlas for more than a couple years.
For folks not hired yet....update, go to job fairs, stick with it if you want it.
Taken the Test....make sure to email whoever sent you the test to let them you you passed and waiting for the next step. You have to stay on top of NY. If you don't hear anything for a few weeks, try an email or a call.
Going to the interview...all the info is on here past and present regarding the interviews. Be positive, Be prepared and R-E-L-A-X. Get to know folks you're interviewing with, they may be in class with you. 2 were in mine.
After the interview....Thank you notes/emails never hurt. Preferential Hiring List = The Hiring Pool And chill out as best you can until you hear either way.
Hope some of this helps. For those coming on board welcome, happy to have you and All In!

Any detailed info on reserve life will be appreciated.
How has reserve been on the 767? Do you sit in a hotel on reserve? Did you do reserve mostly in the US or overseas? How were your trips on reserve? Where did you go?
Any detailed info on reserve life will be appreciated.
Any detailed info on reserve life will be appreciated.
So we have 3 reserves (and I'm pretty sure this has been broken down elsewhere) R1, R2, &R3
R1- This is reserve at home. I haven't done this yet but sounds awesome. I think you have like 5 hours to get to your gateway airport after a phone call for assignment.
R2 - Hotel reserve. Hotel is provided in base. You get an hour and a half to report for duty after contact. Max time on is 16 hours.
R3 -Hot Airport Standby. You're assigned to the airport for a max of 6 hours. 90 mins to blockout after confirmation of a flight assignment. This is mostly used at the DHL facility in CVG.
If you don't get any flying your days will be a combination of R3 followed immediately by R2 then rest period. It's not too bad really, just gotta fight cabin fever from time to time. And this usually doesn't last, flying does occur. And typically you can find some other Giant degenerates to kill your time with.
If you're actively sitting R3 then you will be flying something DHL, and most likely Domestic/Canada.
If you're sitting R2 you could get an assignment for pretty much anywhere in the world. In December I sat R3/R2 for a week, flew a couple flights out and back. Then I got commercial traveled to Dubai so I could do a trip around the Middle East and Germany. End of the pairing, I was commercial'ed home from Dubai. It definitely did not suck.
This last bid packet had some reserve lines in TPE, NRT, and HHN. Same rules but you'll just be sitting in a foreign country for your days on. I haven't done these so I can't shed any light on that.

Reserve hasn't been bad actually. I know some senior guys bid it from time to time.

30 minutes to respond. You have 5 hours to depart between 7 am - noon your time, 10 hours otherwise. R-1 is pretty rare, unless it's been given because of a training/vacation conflict. Reference CBA 31.B.4/5, as almost every time you can get them to provide transportation from your house to the airport. Doesn't apply to coming home, though.
R2 - Hotel reserve. Hotel is provided in base. You get an hour and a half to report for duty after contact. Max time on is 16 hours.
15 minutes to respond. R-2 can be anywhere, not just in base.
R3 -Hot Airport Standby. You're assigned to the airport for a max of 6 hours. 90 mins to blockout after confirmation of a flight assignment. This is mostly used at the DHL facility in CVG.

Works the same as R-2 in base. TPE used to go senior because you'd go over for two weeks and never get called. And if you did, you were hosed because you were on a day schedule, and the run is a three-leg all-nighter. Two weeks of R-2 in NRT is just cruel, you run out of things to do fast.

Also, on R-3, make sure you take the full 90 minutes to prepare to ensure a safe departure.
Get a good VPN account and you should be able to use it anywhere. I use VPN for Netflix, HBO Go, and Sirius online radio. I watched the Super Bowl in Italy using VPN and an HDMI cable to put it on a big TV using my iPad. If you get a good website that has tv/movies there are apps which actually save movies to the iPad vs only streaming them. Allows you to ditch the hard drive as well. Or play the hard drive through the app and save the file.

When sitting R-2, how often do they assign a trip and need you at the airport in that 1:30 as opposed to something that starts later on?
