Two ways of looking at professionalism, I guess. I certainly don't see it as "pompous crap".

And,yes, the 767 training is better than the whale department in all facets.

You know how it is as a newhire. You're bombarded with the "cooperate. graduate." mantra from day one. You can't cooperate and rock the fashion boat at the same time. Until the check airman stop feeling the need to set themselves apart and above the rest in the schoolhouse by dressing like pharmaceutical sales reps.. until they decide to dress normally, the newhires will continue reciprocating "to show respect".
And,yes, the 767 training is better than the whale department in all facets.

This old school culture is about self promotion and checking instead of training. The definition of training is often lost in the MIA TC, especially on the 74 side in lieu of checking. In my prior life, as a check airman I always viewed the checkride as an evaluation of the instructor and a final opportunity for the student to learn.

[QUOTE=WTFover;2061809]Seriously? Is that a whale thing? On the 767, there is no such presumptuousness. I didn't even bring a tie to class, wore polos or button up shirts throughout, INCLUDING the check ride. Not only did no one say anything, I think the opposite is true, they WOULD HAVE said something if I was the only guy in class to show up with a tie![/QUOTE
What's wrong with looking nice- on a very important day. Look good, feel good, perform well. No different than NFL players showing up on game day in a suit and tie. To each is their own.

I don't think Cam shows up in a suit and Tie.
Go Broncos...

Sort of like this?

Yes, it's about respect and professionalism. I doubt anyone would have said anything if I wore a polo to my 74 oral and type, but the check airman was in a tie, the fed was in a tie, and I'd have likely felt underdressed otherwise.
They don't tell you to shower or brush your teeth before ground school, but most of us do anyway. YMMV
By no means am I judging the 76 guys who train in a more relaxed atmosphere. When in Rome.

There are captains here who haven't worn a tie in 10 years.
I was told business casual for gs, dress slacks and polo is norm. As far as check ride, do you pink slip for no tie?! Hope not!!! I would not want to out dress my instructor, but I will dress in those black stretchy pant's if he/she asks me too as I hear they are so comfy!
