Default Southern Question...

I've heard that Southern does not pay for DHD's during your first year, but I also heard that it may have changed is that still so?
I used to work for Polar and for domestic DHD's it was all Y class, but for INTL DHD's anything over 5 hours was Biz or First. What is the DHD policy at Southern?
Anything changing with them getting into CASS either?

Thanks

We get half of block for DH pay, even for first year people. Only Y class no matter where you go. Not CASS and dont plan on being CASS any time soon.

Hey jetdriver thanks for the fast response... after PAC went back to the regionals and I am hating life... do you guys do alot of DHDing? do you get to keep the FF miles? DHDing on a 14 hour flight to HKG or ICN sounds pretty bad to do a couple of times a month in the back, anybody making waves about getting the DHD policy changed?
Thinking about sending in my stuff, you have any pro's con's to Southern?

Thanks Again

DHDing seems to be getting worse. Last month I spent as much time DHDing as I flew. Seats are hit or miss, normally miss. I think that the high load factors are the biggest killer...seems most of the DHD legs I've been on have been packed, and since time is of the essence..... We're working on about 85 things, DHD is pretty far down the "honey do" list other than them DHD'ing us into trips, against our contract.

Pro's: AWESOME flying, planes are decent, 95% of the folks are enjoyable to be on a trip with. Pay's good.

Cons: Uncontrolled expansion without a plan and everything associated with going from 2 to 16 planes in less than 2 years, selling the space on those planes, THEN trying to expand the crews and back office people / process. Earlier in the month Humpty Dumpty fell...will be interesing to see how it shakes out.

So I guess getting Biz class is on a space avail option only hunh?? those 14 hour US - Asia DHD's on PAX ships are killer in Y. The pay does look pretty good at Southern, but the DHD thing is what hurts. How are the hotels, we used to use the Hyatt in ICN and I think the Regal Kowloon in HKG?

Its gone, S Dent quit, some of the "team members" at Southern HQ did not like or want to play with his scheduling program. Gilles is not the problem, he probably is the shining star and glimmer of hope in your management food chain.

They run the spectrum from really nice with KLM/Luftansa FA's (the young females hotties) at the pool to "Motley Crue just stayed there and they haven't cleaned yet". Ironically, I had the Motley Crue room (the rest of my crew had similar rooms, fwiw) at one of the traditionally better hotels. The latest trend is the company negotiating blocks of rooms at the more common stops...so you never see a bill. Easy to work, but you don't get points anymore

That stinks you don't get points. All of our travel and overnights are placed on our credit card issued by the company, we never see a bill, but get all the points.

That's the way it was...still is most of the time, but there is a growing trend. The best part is when you arrive at a destination and skeds has lost track of how many people are sitting in the one decent hotel (i.e. you won't get rolled inyour room) there (one crew was there for a week watching other crews come in and leave 24 hours later), and the block is full and the hotel has no more rooms. Not good.....
