Real world income, no word soup
Couple questions about Atlas
1
What’s the year 1,2,3 pay take home per year, I hear some ok numbers but they are prefaced with “if you work all the time”
So what’s the yearly income look like if I want a good QOL, like home at least half the time?
2
What’s the chance of getting based out of ORD in the 747? I get atlas will cover tickets but I’d rather not turn my days off into days on too much, I also heard they will take money out of your check for the taxes on these tickets
3
I heard there is a nice hazard pay for going some military flights, I’d love to get on those, are they hard to get Jr and would having a DoD clearance help?
My background is about 5k tt unrestricted ATP and typed/PIC on two jets, 135 time but no 121 time, this would also be my first non salary gig in a long time
Thanks!

UAL, AA, SWA have bases in Chicago that aren’t going anywhere and are quick to hold… two of those fly widebodies and all three usually make better financial sense to go to.

1) Hourly rate x monthly guarantee x12. Plug that number into a take home pay calculator for your zip code to get an accurate picture.

That’s $70k a year, I know folks flying scenic tours in pistons who make more
So from what I can see, with that math it would take ether 3 years as a FO or a capt upgrade to get to 120k, what any 2500tt guy with some turbine could make flying most anything
This can’t be right can it?
Yet they post this
So basically after thousands of flight hours these 121s expect me to go into the poor house for 2 years, “paying dues” I guess
And frankly the big three ain’t all that much better it seems
Again I’m new to hourly as well as 121 to any clarification would be great

Again as someone else said. If you want ORD, there’s AA, UA, WN. All can be obtained in a short period of time….

Seems even AA and UA have so so pay for a few years unless you upgrade
Also I have yet to get call from them despite having well over their mins and a professionally edited app
It’s confusing

I, like many of my friends left a pretty good seniority position in the captain seat of a 747 to start over at a legacy. Yes, you have to start over at the bottom of both pay and seniority. But you quickly gain so much in retirement, LTD, QOL, and other benefits that it just makes sense to many. Nothing wrong at all with Atlas. But if you can drive to work in Chicago…..I promise you can get hired by United or AA. With the new CBAs in play pay will be about 110,000 ish first year and 170,000 ish year two on the narrow body. Much more on the wide body but takes a few years in ORD.

I could drive to Chicago, but ideally it’s a short flight for me, ORD would be my ideal base
Haven’t heard anything from the big 3, not sure if it’s my lack of 121 time
I do like being gone for 14 or so days than being back home for the rest, I hear atlas does that, but having to work for a little above CFI wages for 3yrs isn’t really in the cards for me, just seems disrespectful

2. ORD is being awarded to during OE. So, very few ANC gateways. This may change, nothing in aviation is certain, but as of now with so much turnover in the 1-2 year ranks, there should be an open spot.
3. You have to select that you are willing to do Hazardous flights. For many reasons, on the 747, there is no way to ensure you get those flights. We do have pay protection with Bid Line Guarantee.
As far as junior FO pay, you can't get around the way the industry works. I took a $120,000 per year pay cut to come to Atlas. QOL, Future Earnings, Job Conditions, and Job Security mean more to me than new hire pay.
Overt pay for training is a thing of the past, but the airlines still have to invest considerable sums of money, time, and lost efficiency in training every new hire. Therefore, a new hires' wages will be reduced to cover the capital investment made in their training.

Minutiae, since you’re paid the higher off I’d budget with 70hrs/month.
Call it $80k first year for 74 FO
In Sept year 2 will go to $133 so you’ll be in the $112-115k range.
Year 3 $175 so $150k range.
Nothing else included like Per Diem ($10k/year) just straight hourly pay.
