Atlas: The good...

No kidding. When one of our crew members brags about his airline status to me, I can only imagine how much open time he must have been picking up, commercial deadheading all over God's green Earth on his days off. I've never achieved much airline or hotel status through my normal 17 day work month.
For example, Aug I had 18 days off. This year, I volunteered and picked up a few work days in April, and no other months.
If you live in base, which means you aren't flying to/from work, and you don't have as much opportunity for Alternate Travel, then, yes, you won't be airlining so much, and thus won't have as high a status.
Also, if you do 17 day lines, you only commute once roundtrip. I had 3 work patterns in Jul and Aug, so I got a lot more airline miles than I would've if I had 17 days on a row.
I try and bid 30 day lines, which are 3 or more work patterns in two months.
You can bid a fixed-pattern schedule, which means 17 day (or less) work patterns each month, which is good if you don't want to commute. You also will know your schedule for the whole year (mostly).

Of course you can feed your kids with your hotel status. Those continental breakfast buffets at Hilton Garden Inn are full of nutrition for a growing family. Think outside the box.

That's a darned good plan! May as well swipe the ANC PB&Js out of the galley to send them to school with too. We should start a new thread- "How to save money as an Atlas pilot in 2022" haha

Make sure you snag generic Q-tips for offspring hygiene and mints from the Oakwood for the kids dessert, toothbrushes/toothpaste for family oral cleanliness and notepads from the Narita Garden hotel for your kids to write on with pens from the Ritz in Almaty to include xtra utensils from the Doubletree breakfast takeaways for your home tent. Shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion is your discretion while it lasts. I kid, but some do stretch it out.

And the lounge is quite nice. Need to get one of those wine dispensary units no doubt. It did take me a minute the first time I stayed to find all the hidden room controls. If you leave earlier than normal breakfast times, just put in an order delivery to the room. It’s the Rodeo drive of Krazaktown. Like many of our accommodations it’s not a Hilton Garden or Holiday Inn Express…

National has been paying to transport its foreign pilot employees, mostly Aussies, to their homes, all over the world, & back, during their rotations. I understand Atlas is doing this as well? It definitely has increased retention at National.

If mgmt did that then every US citizen living overseas should be getting exactly the same treatment. We all work under the same CBA, no favoritisms.
