Gateway as in city that you tell the company on paper where to book your commute flights from to base. Usually that’s your place of residence. This is what travel will base air fare for on when it comes to commuting from home base. Think of it as your dummy residence in the US.
But for international guys, folks who Europe would base themselves on the east coast and would use like Honolulu as their gateway city. They would call travel to to see how much a ticket from Europe to their base cost and compare it to a ticket from Honolulu to their base. If it’s the ticket cheaper from Europe, the company will book your ticket. If you not, you need to get to the US on your own via space available, then have the company get you to your Base.
‘’In your case, the 74 junior base is Anchorage, you need to find a garage way city that is expensive year round to Anchorage.

So as a commuter, pick a airline to earn status on and have travel book you on that airline. I say this after getting off my commute which I scored a Uograde on.

Gateway travel is your commute and not considered as deadheading. The language in the contract covers Deadheading.

So I clearly overlooked the difference there. I just got assigned to the 74, and I'm here thinking I'd be having a cush commute to AK from S.FL hahah.
I got elite status on 2 of the mayors, but getting an upgrade in the past 8 months has not really been the best since every flight is packed. I guess the more comfy alternative would be jumpseating on one of the MIA-ANC flights?
