yet another Newby Question
Former expat airline WB driver with interview shortly...
I've read countless pages here and amongst the drivel have found some real great stuff here thanks.
But I have some questions still if someone could help.
1. Wife and I wish to live in Europe...I understand the Positive space commute to work and hotels provided if you live in the USA does this also apply if you live in Europe (AMS) and hold a 47 base.
after initial training can I live in Europe with the wife and expect to pick up flights in out of Europe or get the guaranteed business commute to base?
Is that commute considered to be on days off ?
2. This 1600 a month new hire pay stated on the brochure - (insane) how long does that last from DOH ?
3. 17k hrs former 737 757 767 777 787 Capt, happy to earn my place again in the left seat based on seniority ... what's the realistic 47 upgrade times.
4. 17 days and 64hrs min guarantee is what I should assume for pay based on the relevant hourly grids ..correct ?
Cheers All

2. That is not a thing any more. 64hrs * 94/hr year 1 pay from day 1. You also get 24 hours per diem during your time in Miami, approx 3 months.
3. 5-6 years, barring any black swan events.
4. 75-80hrs, 17 days is what you can budget for. Right now things are crazy with 120-170hr months being normal, but that will change at some point. You might get lucky for a while, I don't see China changing any time soon.

1) So the key with living overseas is to pick your gateway city in the US that yields expensive plane tickets to base. If your ticket from where you live overseas is cheaper than the ticket from than the ticket from your gateway city, the company will buy your ticket.
If not, than you are on the hook for form getting yourself to the US and have the company buy your ticket to base.
Someone else that has more experience with this, can fill you in on how to work this situation, it is complicated.
Yes, this will be done on your days off.
2) New hire pay is now 91/hr at MMG of 64 hours while in training + 24/7 per diem per our new agreement. The information you saw is dated.
It last from 4 months of DOH, IOE completion, or if the more Junior guy that that completes his IOE before before other more senior folks in your class. Whichever comes first.
3) Plan for 5 year upgrade times on the 74.
4) You are on the hook 17 days of work and it would be wise to budget for 64 hours per month. 74 guys average about 75-85 hours credit per month not including Article 33 or Bid Line Guarantee (primary line holder).

We have a large expat group of pilots, I will leave 1. to them.

If by Gateway you mean an entry city that one would clear customs before connecting to one of the bases assuming the international carrier did not fly to the base itself.
If the above assumption is correct then what if the gateway was the base
IE
AMS to JFK (base)
AMS to LAX (base)
One flight from Europe to base
Many thanks in advance.

Having been previously based in PVG, I would have to agree with you.

#2 Basically about $8000 before taxes each month. Granted per diem can be taxed if above a certain threshold. Maybe not since it’s domestic per diem, but I am not sure.
Gateway example from a friend who lives in GDL (Guadalajara, Mexico). He is based in ANC, his Gateway airport stateside is LAX. The ticket from LAX exceeds the price of the GDL to ANC he uses; therefore, company buys him a ticket to ANC and his return home as well. He may have had two residences if you will and this was pre-COVID - also, prices fluctuate so this may have changed. *Unsure if any contract changes affected this…don’t think so.
*Note: We do have flights out of AMS or maybe it was FRA or both (destinations change due to contracts ending/opening) that arrive stateside to a base or two so that is another way to fly in. As Swakid8 mentioned, it’s complicated depending on where you live and connect the dots. Couple of my fly-by-friends do have opportunities to start trips overseas, but nothing you can count on unless senior perhaps at best. I am not the Jedi master on any of this, but we do have them.

But for international guys, folks who Europe would base themselves on the east coast and would use like Honolulu as their gateway city. They would call travel to to see how much a ticket from Europe to their base cost and compare it to a ticket from Honolulu to their base. If it’s the ticket cheaper from Europe, the company will book your ticket. If you not, you need to get to the US on your own via space available, then have the company get you to your Base.
‘’In your case, the 74 junior base is Anchorage, you need to find a garage way city that is expensive year round to Anchorage.

The people saying 5-6 year upgrade on the 74 are delusional. The most recent junior upgrades on the 74 have been here almost 6 years. A few years ago the upgrade was 3.5 years on the 74. The vast majority of resignations are in the FO ranks. The upgrade will continue to go up and probably end up in the 8-10 year range on the 74 for people hired today.
