Layover hours in ICN? About 14 hours minimum, to 2 nights is "normal". 3-4 nights is very common. More nights are possible. You may see ICN once in a pattern, or numerous times. Last time I was scheduled for ICN and Japan (cargo flying), I never went to either. Instead I went to Hawaii and Gulfport, MS, and did two passenger flights. A LOT of our flying is now out of ICN (and Japan), because our normal HKG hub is still closed for us.
Thanks. This is the info that I was looking for. Thanks for sharing.

With atlas building a maintenance depot at icn opening 2025, do you think icn will be the hub instead of hongkong?

Pre-Covid, western companies (manufacturing, logistics, etc) were already growing uncomfortable with the dominance China was starting to assert around the globe. Many were already starting, or planning, a pivot towards other countries in the region. Covid and the CCP’s reaction to it has accelerated those plans.

Through the last few years ICN has become Atlas’ main hub in Asia and I do not see that changing. Looking forward China will only become more of an adversary to the West and S Korea will remain an ally. China will always be a huge player for manufacturing. However, WHEN there is another major worldwide event who would you want a large portion of your business dependent on?

Greetings,

I've read through the entire thread and there's a lot of excellent info. Curious here in late 2022 if there's still split lines... especially on the 777, 76, and 73? If so, are they senior or are jr guys typically able to get them?

Also, does the 73 still have quite a few schedules where you gateway on day 1 vs day 0? If so, is that at all common on other fleets?

Thanks for your time and thanks for guys giving no b.s. responses throughout the thread.

There are split lines yes, probably more than non-split to be honest. Do they go senior/junior? Hard to tell. Some people love one block, some don’t, so hard to say.

I’m not on the 73 anymore but last time I checked, more lines were starting at CVG or ILN, so that means traveling on day 0 unless you live in base.

Default LAX Gateway with ANC 747 Base

Thanks to all for the insights contained in the last 60 pages - it is a great help!

I'm looking at the viability of a LAX Gateway with ANC 747 Base (First Officer), as I understand ANC is the most junior 747 base at this time. There have been some discussions about Day 0 and Day 1 Gateway Travel but nothing concrete, so here goes:

1. If I bid for a Fixed Line 17/13(14), would LAX Gateway travel to ANC generally happen on Day 0 or Day 1 - is this generally done via DH on company aircraft or commercial airlines?

2. If for whatever reason such as visiting friends, family or vacation, one was for instance somewhere in Asia before Day 0, would it be possible to go directly to (for example) NRT and then DH on company aircraft to ANC and/or would the company still pick up the equivalent portion of this compared to Gateway Travel from LAX to ANC - or what is the general modus operandi here.

3. What are the per diem rates that one can expect, knowing very well that you also need to eat and live while on duty - referring to the Company (pdf), but just wanted to make sure those figures are realistic, especially when considering a fixed line 17/13(14) for 12 months and budgeting on min guarantee (to be safe).

4. Could someone post a screenshot of the latest agreed rates for 747 and 777 First Officer indicating the jump per year form Date of Joining and Date of Signing - IIRC someone posted this for the 767 a few pages back.

Agreed, great info on this thread!

To expand on the questions in the previous post, how does the 747 flying differ between the ANC vs the LAX bases (if at all?)

Disregard (4) as I've managed to get my hands on it.

1. They will travel you to your base so you will be able to have at least 10 hours rest pre-duty. This will be either commercial or company depending on flight schedules.
2. You are expected to be able to be in base for your duty. So if you want to jumpseat from NRT to ANC the day prior you could. However, be aware that our flights delay quite frequently. Just last week I was doing the NRT-ANC flight and we had a friend of mine js on the flight to go to work as he lives in Tokyo. We delayed 24 hours so he had to scramble to find alternate travel. He ended up getting a ticket from Haneda to Incheon and then riding on one of our flights from there to Anchorage.
3. Per diem is currently 2.85 Conus and 3.60 OConus. Set to increase 10 cents on January 1st.

1. Fixed pattern lines can only be bid for once a year and are effective the following year. For instance the last bid was October 2022 for the 2023 year FPL's. So don't bank on a FPL straight out the gate. Also, don't plan on getting a 17/13 straight away, especially with all the commuters that are here now (and will be much more senior than yourself).

1/2. Travel is on Day 0, it's only if you manage to alternate travel then you may travel on Day 1 should there be a DH for your first flight, again, don't plan on that happening.

LAX is the second most junior 74 base so there's a good chance that you will be able to hold LAX in your first year, possibly even by the time you finish training. This of course could change given the large number of Aussies in training at the moment as LAX makes commuting back to oz easier than the other bases.

The most important thing as an international commuter to remember about Atlas; While Atlas is commutable (at times) it's not a commuting job.
