[QUOTE=Team Boeing;3415334]How senior to the 17 days on followed by 13 days off go on the B747? If someone was to start next month when would you expect to be able to hold that most months after training?

Would the B767 be a better option for 17 On/13 Off?

TIA[/QUOTE

It goes senior in ANC….. You best bet is bidding a fixed pattern line at the for next year.

Granted, many folks were shooting for out base during the art 33. Some were able to capitalize on it and some not so much as many didn’t drop 175% lines.

*However: Out base also appeals to folks who have family in the Far East or Europe (or live there), but the more popular lure is relationships. That’s all I’m going to say about that! - Gump
Family lives in Korea. So outbasing out of ICN until I can build seniority to VX makes sense to me.

Sorry for the ignorance but what is a fixed pattern line? I am not very familiar with the Atlas bidding system

For now on the 747, even new hires get plenty of VX. Hard to predict how long this will continue obviously.

Basically you bid to consistently get the start or end of a month off, consistently, for a long time. It means you have more ability to schedule your life, but less flexibility on where you go, bid line guarantee, etc. It's useful to make sure you get Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas off.

Someone can correct me on the particulars.

Just because you outbase somewhere doesn't mean you'll ever see it. Just a heads up.

Halloween isn’t guaranteed off, but yes. You are correct. They cover the transition period between month to month. Fixed pattern line is a year long secondary line that starts the same day each other and the ends the same day each month.

October is when the fixed pattern lines bids are put out. You will bid a line for example that starts the 27th of each month then the foot print will end the following month around the 13th. It is a set schedule, so there is no bidding for the entire year until December.

The company will fill out your schedule with flying that you have no control over and you do not get BLG. But the trade off is that you get to plan things far in advance and you will get Christmas and Thanksgiving off with the way they are structured.

In my opinion they are great for Families and those who are can’t hold 17 day lines.

For me, I was able to get my birthday, wife’s birthday, our anniversary, Thanksgiving and Christmas off which made bidding for one worth it. It does suck not getting BLG though…. That one hurts. I would bid for it again next year if it was up to me.

Excellent information given on fixed lines. Definitely defined it better than I ever could. With a few years of seniority (in the past perhaps) you might be able to hold 17 day lines or those 60 day lines which match up to the holidays or priorities. Met some folks on the border of being able to get their desired days off and they throw in a VTO which sometimes turns out even better than what I bid for as a pretty senior right seater. Basically a gamble that might work. Moving left, I would definitely take a hard look at those fixed lines if left seat were the priority.
