Bid is by seniority, but they don’t put the awards out, so I have no idea how senior it goes. You’ll be better of VXing for 7 days straight vs outbasing in terms of credit though.

To open a can of worms, the union did shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to discouraging out-basing by implementing the 115 hour soft cap for picking up open time.

Depends on the fleet and the month.

That's assuming you have enough seniority to be awarded VX trips.

With respect to outbasing, understand that it’s not just a “normal pattern” (17 days) based in an outstation. Your are placed on reserve for all 30/31 days that month, and should only expect to have off for the minimum amount of time contractually required (32 hours off every 7 days). Additionally, there’s no guarantee that you’ll actually spend any time at all at your outbase. You could be awarded an outbase for HHN and never actually pass through it, for example.

‘This is very true. Then if you have work days coming before or after outbasing, you will be on the hook for those days as well. That’s a very long time on the road. 17 days is usually enough for me.

My classmate has outbased almost every month since he was a new hire, another friend has done a few HHN months. So it seems to go pretty junior.

Makes sense as once the “lure” of servitude for a monthly cash “min guarantee” wears off and the ability to VX successfully (on a monthly basis) due to seniority becomes reliable than they will start the latter of the two. Not many of those with some longevity here will out base as the VX can drive more cash at times with less “servitude” if you will as Swakid8 mentioned AND/OR they already gave 17 days or thereabouts at the office for years now and simply worn out/don’t care. Granted, many folks were shooting for out base during the art 33. Some were able to capitalize on it and some not so much as many didn’t drop 175% lines.

*However: Out base also appeals to folks who have family in the Far East or Europe (or live there), but the more popular lure is relationships. That’s all I’m going to say about that! - Gump

How senior to the 17 days on followed by 13 days off go on the B747? If someone was to start next month when would you expect to be able to hold that most months after training?

Would the B767 be a better option for 17 On/13 Off?

TIA

The example I used lives in said outbase, so it works really well for him.
