Anybody get class dates recently more than 30 days out? Or is that the norm right now?

Default General Questions

As someone with little to no knowledge of Atlas/Southern who is considering dropping an application I have a few questions if anyone wants to educate me:

What is the difference between Atlas and Southern? First Officer apps for both show up on the application page, so I'd assume I'd need to fill out both applications.

What are the schedules like? My current job pays better but the schedule has gotten much worse since COVID and I don't think management will want to change post COVID (assuming that happens this century)?

Do they offer move money if I move to a domicile?

Any unspecified benefits that some of the senior pilots like (easy workload, time off, etc - things not officially benefits)?

Other tidbits of love or hate?

Thanks

Been reading A LOT of it. Some answers so far but not all. Plus things change and different people have different perspectives.

Sorry. I meant. Has anybody that is waiting on a class been given dates for their class more than 30 days from the start date.

Thanks!

1. Atlas and Southern are two separate airlines in the process of merging. The merger should be completed within the next few months. Filling out both applications won't hurt.

2. Usually 17 days of work per month. Can be all in one big block, or split up into 2 or 3 different trips. Largely depends on what airframe you are on.

3. No money is offered for moving to a domicile. Just gateway travel if you live more than 130 miles away from your base.

4. There really is no benefit to seniority here with the exception of getting a little more vacation time once you hit year 6. That's pretty much it.

The company and union just submitted their final proposals which will be turned over to the arbitrator. The company is proposing 17 days of work per month and K4 style pay rates for the 747, with less than K4 pay for all other airframes. They are proposing the same scope language, which if they are successful in getting, means that in 5 years they will be able to buy another airline and prevent pilots from voting on a CBA for the 3rd contract cycle in a row.

I'm bored.

Different fleets. Probably by the end of the year Southern will be no. As to how to fill out the application I have no clue.

You get 13 days off in a 30 day month and 14 in a 31 day month. Except in January and March which each give February a day to make all three of those months 30 day months. There are one month bids and two month bids which Atlas calls 30 day lines and 60 day lines even in a 31 day month. The 74 30 day lines tend to one block of days. There are more of the 76 30 lines broken up. The 60 day lines are normally in 3 blocks with one covering the change in months. If you take advantage of the Gateway program you'll probably be traveling to your base on day zero.

No

Any unspecified benefits that some of the senior pilots like (easy workload, time off, etc - things not officially benefits)?
No

If you live very close, then R3 (airport reserve) works as well as R2.
