Keep in mind Gateway travel means you have to travel on your day off.

And the company has forced people to travel up to 36 hours ahead of time. I think there is an informal agreement that says now the limit is 24 hours.

How often does your line actually start operating out of your domicile when using gateway travel? For example, if I live near JFK, but get ANC based, will the company every just say, we are going to fly you out of JFK on day 1 to meet you aircraft in XYZ country and it cheaper than flying you out of ANC?

That has only happened to me once and I was on Reserve. Has never happened with a line in ANC for me. Iv heard that some JFK flying lines starts with a dead head and people do fly from home to meet the airplane.

Sitting at about 250 with slots for up to 340 new hires (747).

Enjoy your multi leg commute on your time off to ANC...

You misrepresent the situation under which that may occur.

You get paid the higher of CRT or Block.
Example:
You have a 17 day line and your first scheduled flight is on day 3.
Unless you’ve been assigned R1 ( at home reserve long call) day 1 and day 2 will likely not be spend at home.
You’re om company time and getting paid.
Well within their right to reposition you on day 1 which could be 36hrs before your flight.
The customer may want crews in position if they need the option to bring the flight forward a day. Boeing or AMC flying for example.
This is ACMI and not United you’re flying for.
You’re on company time, you get paid they can reposition you. Perfectly acceptable.
