For the FDX guys or anyone else that stays in the Shanghai Hilton...
It seems the norm is to come out of the hotel and head northbound, or to head towards Malones. I highly recommend going the other direction. There is a great area with tons of restaurants and bars.
Go out of the hotel and take a right. Proceed south on the road for about half a mile until you reach the intersection of Hengshan Lu and Taojing Lu. Turn right off the main drag and go about 100 yards down the street. There is a great Irish pub on the right called O'Malleys which is packed with expats from all over the place. There is a bar on the main floor, pool table on the second and another bar on the third floor. Across the street is a large German Brew Pub. And the best part...airline crews get 20 percent off everything!! If you stay on the main drag and pass Taojing Lu you will come to a place on the left called Zapatas which is a huge Mexican place that has a large patio with outdoor bars and a few dance floors. It is a great scene with lots of expats and locals as well.
