So if you are awarded a transfer to PHX via MBE, you are fair game to be displaced if you are junior correct? I know a ton of pilots want to leave so I wonder how many will actually be displaced.
How often does the MBE happen? Is it every vacancy bid? Is it awarded by seniority?

- MBE closes on the 3rd of every month with the results posted a few days after that.
The company did NOT approve all of the DOM/INT MBE requests. Apparently, they did not have enough INT training slots in December to accommodate all of the requests.
Displacements are VERY costly to the company. Those that are junior in PHX may very well be displaced, but my guess is that there will not be any involuntary displacements.

I got the MBE to PHX and will be very close to the bottom. I figure I'll get displaced within a few months.
If I displace into the 737 I know I'll get a reinstatement right. To use it to go back to the A320 without a seatlock do I have to use it as soon as I can hold PHX A320 or can I wait a while first?

Well in general displacements cascade throughout the system. Notionally, A WB Captain who is displaced to NB displaces a WB FO who displaces a NB FO. So even though they all get trained, they all have reinstatement rights (without any freeze) and even though the initial position may be gone for good, all the down-flow displacements will repopulate with due time which results in quite a bit of training expense for very temporary shuffling of the chairs.

All kidding aside, welcome to Phoenix. I hope you'll like the people here as much as I do. It really is a great group.

If you ever take the reinstatement right out you lose the entitlement/reinstatement right. Every guy junior to you who was displaced will have to be reinstated before it becomes available for regular bidding.

[QUOTE=DesertDog;2237105]The USA’s best airport? Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The worst are the three big airports serving New York City.
Reducing the originating trips and hence the domicile is the first step in the process. For quite some time the West has been flying East trips because as Kirby and Parker have repeatedly stated, there is not a lot of "profitable flying directly from PHX." It was estimated that up to 25% of PHX flying was actually former East US Airways flying.
What will be the ultimate result of this process? It may look something like this. The same basic number of flights into and out of the hub but with a significantly different mix. Many more large RJ's may be in the future for PHX. The old America West system supported mainline non-stops from PHX to places like Omaha, Spokane, Bosie, Milwaukee, Fresno, etc. (I stand corrected if these are already regional routes). At least some of the daily flights to the smaller destinations out of PHX will become regional flights. Making PHX a larger regional connecting hub could help to unload LAX which needs more space and a relocation of flying. Make more regional connections in PHX instead of LAX.
This process will take time and with the pilot shortage and the regionals' having difficulty staffing it will not happen overnight. I don't think AA will abandon the PHX hub. It is too big a market. The company will however "rightsize" the operation and probably change the mix to make it more profitable. There will still be many flights from PHX, but many of those will be on large RJ's.
This domicile reduction is just the first step.

Where do you live?
So if they remove Phoenix as a base in the future, but still have a lot of flights into/out of Phoenix, where do folks live in that case? Can you still live in Phoenix and start/stop in Phoenix, but technically be "based" somewhere else? Or will you have to commute to say Dallas, then your trip has a leg through Phoenix or something like that?
