If I thought this company/job was crap, I'd be gone. Many of our pilots did that in the '04-'05 range. Some are glad they did, some not so much. But being somewhere that you despise is not healthy.
So, when are you leaving?

I think someone today could walk away after 35 years with 9 million. 5.5 million if you do not put any money in the 401k. That is. 7% return and bringing $20,000 from previous airline 401k.
It is not what it used to be but still way better than most industries. My neighbor had his company bought by IBM. He was beside himself when he found out they would match %5 of his income in his 401k. I did not let him know what mine is.
AA is not a great place to work but I don't think it is the worst either. I am jealous of what Delta makes but had I been hired there the same day as here I would have been furloughed. I am willing to bet that a Delta pilot hired when I was has not had it as good as I have. I would guess I have made more money and have a larger retirement account.
Things change in this industry. Sometimes for the better sometimes not. Just three years ago I made $110,000 after 17 years. I have well over a million in the bank and have 15 plus years to go. There is no place I would rather be.

"There is absolutely ZERO guarantee this job will be around another 35 years. I highly doubt any of the new hires will ever see the left seat of a group 4 airplane here.
Did you not live through 9/11 and see how fast everything can change?"
------
I remember 9/11 clearly. If you had been here then, you might understand just exactly how tough the AA franchise is and how amazing these people(employees) are to work with. When they started flying again, coming back to work was an act of courage...they did not blink.
There is no guarantee of anything in this world. I placed my bet on this outfit and it worked out really well for me. I'll fight to leave it even better for the next guy. I guess that means nothing to you and that's ok....Move on so somebody who wants to be here can and will make it better.

Who knows what the future may bring? But that doesn't mean we can't take meaningful steps towards the future. Almost 90% of the guys you seeing flying LAA Group IV CA weren't in those seats back on 9/11. We get that things change and yet the sun still comes up in the East, every *ucking day, day after day after day. So we take that predictability and try to make an analysis of the uncertainties, and that ability is what allows us to function without dreaming of doomsday scenarios every day.
