Advice to American applicants...

I think that a generational shift might fix a lot of problems. It's not just all peace & harmony over at Delta. There was a lot of disagreement over the TA between the old geezers and the FNGs.

But be honest, how many of us expected the new AA to be this profitable this soon?

I know it's hard to imagine a world outside of American Airlines, but US Airways Contract 98 was arguably one of the best airline contracts in the industry. In fact, LOA 93 really only came after the pay rates. A lot of the work rules remained intact even through 2 bankruptcies. Too bad no one ever thought to turn past Section 3.

Actually it's not hard to imagine the airline world outside of AA. But guys come on here and have no clue of the history of the airline business except for the six years they've been in it. But when a lot of the issues being discussed were taking place they were not born, in Pre-K, drew pictures about it, or wrote a report on the impact of 9/11 on the industry. And all of those events are part of where the industry is today. That's the last thirty years and now guys are making statements about the next thirty years. That's where their certainty bumps into our, disagreeing, opinion.
How long was the LUS 1998 contract great? How many guys got hired? For how long? What happened?
It's funny to see a 2013 new hire, at AA, complain about that the future. Why would someone go to a company coming out of BK? That would have been like getting hired at UA or DL a couple of years ago.

It's a job.
A job that will give you say, $8m in paychecks if you start at 30 years old and $6m in retirement.
Try working for Emirates, Korean....any Ex-Pat job in China. Then you can define clearly what a "crap" job is.
Contracts do change over time, but you'll get the contract you are willing to fight for.

If, like you, I thought it was crap I'd be gone. Sometimes I complain about AA and the APA, but I don't think it's crap.
I imagine that you have never been happy with anything.

There is absolutely ZERO guarantee this job will be around another 35 years. I highly doubt any of the new hires will ever see the left seat of a group 4 airplane here.
Did you not live through 9/11 and see how fast everything can change?

No sport, I'm not chained to anything. I could cash out tomorrow and walk from it, if I decided that was best. Just as you can.

Sport? Whatever you say, gramps.
Of course any of us could leave tomorrow. But there's no way you'd give up your 30 whatever years of seniority, unless you hit the lottery.
