Default 5.5 million ways to say goodbye

The $5.5 million settlement to the West from USAPA goes to the judge for approval. Thanks for the memories USAPA. LOL. Large bills are fine.

Just curious, but if approved, does this mean the individual USAPA officers are no longer in potential personal financial jeopardy and how would this money be distributed to whom ?

Just a guess, but it will probably go to the West's legal costs.

In other news a west pilot was just promoted to A-350 Check Airman. That's going to shoot a big gaping hole in the theory that we are three separate airlines.

Has anyone claimed that we were 3 separate airlines? I thought it was 3 separate lists.

I don't see any gaping hole. It would be just as apt to ask the question of whether this person would have been able to achieve such a position on 12/8/2013 ?

The answer is a resounding "no" and since it is, it seems clear what the pre-merger realities were and even more so, what they are now as a result of the merger and now West access to Group IV. To bolster that position in the consideration of "3 separate airlines" (actually seniority lists), are any East or West management pilots/check airman obtaining 777/787 slots or any similar LAA pilots going to A330/350 ?

I think this development is inconsequential to the arbitrators considerations.

According to a management pilot friend of mine that just made a move, he was told he could pick any aircraft in the combined fleet and be trained on it.

Are you aware of why they've had to search so much for A350 instructors? There's a reason for it, a lot of the east guys passed for a couple of big reasons... And he won't even be getting group four pay if his seniority can't hold it... So, today your guy would be getting paid group 2 pay to do group 4 stuff. You might want to hold off on claiming that as a victory. Is your guy one of the ones wrapped up in the Ansett deal? It seems odd to do a job with time zone changes etc without the pay. I mention all that because it's not necessary a "promotion".

West asked for something like $4M for legal fees I think. Not sure about remaining $1.5M.

You DO realize that new hire pilots are CAPTAIN qualified if they have an ATP, a First Class medical and the Company TYPES them in the A350(or any other aircraft for that matter)? I would guess that almost ALL of them would GLADLY take a training job that would pay THEM group 2 Captain pay to train on anything, wouldn't you?

If I were I new hire offered that deal I'd grab it in a second. I think that the Company should institute the CQFO program and offer F/O's to fly Captain if YOU DON"T WANT TO!

We don't need seniority for THAT. Just stupidity. No lack of that here with APA UNION PILOT MENTALITY!!!
