The 925 was never officially posted anywhere. It was given to someone by someone and posted on here as fact. The company has never stated publicly anymore then the 725 number.

Not true. In Oct they announced 900. It was in a network planning letter. Can’t find it now, because I’ve deleted old email, but there is even a thread title “900” from Oct on here.

Edit: found it

October 23, 2017

When I last wrote to you in June regarding the October vacancy bid, I shared upcoming changes from our Network Planning team, in particular how they plan to deploy aircraft and likely impacts for pilot basing. As an example, in June we talked about how we expected to see an increase in B787 flying for ORD and LAX and a decrease at DFW, along with upcoming retirements of the B767-300ER that would reduce system-wide flying on that aircraft by about 30% next summer. The point of sharing all of it was to be true to a commitment I made to you to provide as much information regarding fleet changes and associated pilot basing decisions as early as possible.

In that same vein of transparency, what follows is fleet-specific context around what you will see with the March 2018 vacancy bid, our first multi-month vacancy bid, posted today. Our crew basing is driven primarily by three changes: fleet simplification by hub (or isolating certain fleet types to certain hubs to improve reliability); retirements of the MD80 and B767 fleets; and deliveries of B787 and B737 aircraft. All of this, coupled with hiring projections of about 900 pilots next year makes for some positive growth for many of you.

Here’s what you’ll see in today’s vacancy bid, consistent with prior information we’ve shared

Thanks for the info! Any idea where the class number breakdown came from...was it official and they just changed the projection?

It was posted on aapilots under hiring.

Now I’m doubting myself about it being posted on aapilots. The company gave the union the forecast class dates and sizes. It was reposted here. There was a previous discussion based on information provided by the company showing 925 new hires.

You guys must have access to a different aapilots then I do. I have only ever seen numbers around 700-750. Right now it shows 730. That’s ok. More is better. I just don’t know where these 900+ numbers keep coming from and I would guess that when we revisit this next year it’s closer to 700 then 900.

I just read an AApilots email (who knew we had that) and it clearly states 720. So again not sure where you guys are seeing these 900+ numbers but I hope you are right.

900+ always sounded high to me, it was almost double the retirement rate, plus we are losing airplanes. With UAL expanding capacity I'm wondering if AA is pulling back the reigns a little so as to not let margins continue to erode. Gotta keep that stock price up, it's how Doug gets paid.

If it was there it wasn’t there for long and has since been adjusted. Again I hope you guys are right but I think your hanging on to a pipe dream. I don’t see them hiring 900 this year.
