I see 523 hired as of 8/18/2017 according to Dave Tatum. He is Director Pilot Recruiting. It should be Close to 700 for the year. It also said increase for next year. Sounds like it is backed up a bit. If they slow down they are crazy. We just retired 34 last month. We peak in 2022 at one every 9 and a half hours. Good movement at junior bases. Dallas and Chicago still tough to get to. I can hold Captain on the 767 in a couple bases and last time I checked I couldn't hold a line as a First Officer on 787 or 777 in DFW.

Just checked. I can hold a line 787in ORD and DFW. Barely. PHL 767 Ca is the Junior base. They are adding flying there too. I am not sure if it will be flown by PHL based pilots. ZRH, BUD and PRG all new to PHL and I think it is to be flown by 767.

We've run 1000 new hires through the school house in the 1980's-1990's.
I don't know, but guess, that the S80 retirement is generating additional training demand. It doesn't appear that the current school house manning could handle 1000 new hires. That's just an opinion.

My understanding is the schoolhouse is trying to catch up. With more Mad Dogs leaving the fleet and other upgrades, they needed some breathing room.
When the hiring wave really hits in a couple of years, they will need to be ramped up to handle a lot more than today.

AA MIA pilot base
I have not yet applied to AA but was wondering, for someone wishing to live in South Florida, how realistic is it to get MIA as a base for a new hire. Also, what aircraft is a junior pilot likely to get based in MIA?
