Recruiters have no idea what the yearly hiring totals will be. They are told to fill X over the next Y months and do not look past those targets since those decisions are made well above them. If you want to know what our projected hiring totals for 2016 look like you'd have to talk to APA, DoFO or Fleet Managers. They're able to read between the lines looking at attrition, capacity growth and fleet plans. Recruiters don't do this.
Drinking beers with one of the top three guys last week. Chatted with another of the top three guys last week. One's been a friend for about 18 years and I've known the other guy since Sep. 1991. Spoke with a fleet manager, friend since 1986, last week.
One thinks 600 is about right. Fleet manager's plate is so full he's not wasting any brain power on the hiring numbers. Subject didn't come up with the third guy.
As far as APA goes, if the number changed RM or RJ would call over to PT to get the updated number.

Yes. You are correct. Neither a press release or a link is necessary to validate the hiring numbers.
I have it on good authority that the hiring numbers are actually 800 in the next 6 months, and over 2,000 by the end of 2016. Really. Sorry, I don't have a press release or a link. But you can trust me. My sources are really good, and I found them on the internet.

Huh? Recruiters absolutely know the number. Maybe not the lower level ones, especially if the number just changed, but PT knows the number off the top of her head. I've watched John Hale turn to her at the WAI to get the correct number.

My wife is a Director of HR and all the recruiters are beneath her. Before she was promoted to her new position she was a Senior Recruiter / Manager. They do not have control over the numbers. They only get info that states X# of classes need Y# of pilots and this will continue for Z# of months. They do not control anything beyond the time frame they were instructed to hire for. They have their opinions based upon trends but those opinions are not concrete, they are nothing more than guesstimations. PT's no different, the number she has was given to her for a set time period. Anything beyond that point is her insider opinion.
In this industry "good authority" is a joke and yes a press release would help to validate but no one ever releases a press release for something as minor has hiring estimates.

Am I reading this correctly that your wife is the director of HR at AA?
