I had about 3,400 hours total, around 2,500 of that was PIC and about 1,300 of that as IP/EP...so you're in the ballpark.
FYI, at least on the hiring front, it's not all about the flight time. If you've done any work as an Ops officer, ADO, safety guy or anything related to that, make sure that sticks out in your profile/resume. Whatever you can do to separate yourself from the run-of-the-mill pilot with umpteen thousand hours will help you.

Anyone in management or hiring that could answer a question? Would getting a 737 type rating (or Airbus) benefit in getting a f2f interview at American?
My reason for asking- after speaking with recruiters who told me not having a current training event is a concern for them since my last training event (type rating) was long ago and has a failure attached.
Plus, since Southwest has dropped their 737 requirement, any stigma would not be attached to it.

Like I stated before, it comes down to recommendations and sheer luck. My best advice is to be very open with your training failure and most importantly what you've learned from it. Never blame anyone but yourself for it. And, have patience. I truly believe it's only a matter of time before the pool of qualified applicants begins to really dwindle.
I am in no way associated with HR or hiring.

I've got a 737 and Airbus PIC type. Haven't heard a word. I also have a recent PC and conduct training events every other month. Still nothing.

Barracuda, AA has 12,000+ applications on file. Right now word on the street is there are some furloughs returning eating up some classes, but after they return it will be full speed ahead. Remember, 1/2 of AA classes are Eagle flows for the time being.
Personally, if you're already a 121 CA, I would't spend the money on the type. Keep networking and building your CA time. But, everyone is different.
