I noticed your profile says you're in the Delta pool. Do you live in an AA domicile? If not stick with Delta.

If he lives in a hub stick with that airline as his first choice.

But turn down AA and commute from an AA base to fly for DL? Every time he got out of his car he'd be at work...instead he'd still have to commute. Limits of sorts of options. You're not giving the guy good advice.

Domiciles can close or shrink and what may be attractive one year looks like crap a few years later. Ask the boyz in Frisco about that. PHX, STL and very likely BOS could be whacked and ORD could shrink more or become a Group I ghetto. I'd base my decisions on long-term career prospects based on quantifiable aspects of strength. Delta will be THE future benchmark legacy with astute and sharp management and superior employee relations. A true player, whereas we're headed to be a fragmented ragtag global also-ran with little more then new uniforms and paint job. Being 15% higher up the pole at the Walmart of legacies in 10 years isn't necessarily the best option.

Parker and Kirby aren't building anything here, just reconstituting the past and in the long run, as it stands now I think that will be a poor investment.

I second that. If you're going to commute regardless, then stay at DL. I'm staying here at AA because I intend on living in DFW, which is unlikely to close anytime soon.

I can see that as a valid reason to stay. But unless you have strong ties to a rock solid AA domicile and plan to stay that way, AA offers little compared to Delta in the long run. I believe ultimately, United will pass us up as well as even with their present dysfunctionality, there is hope. As long as we have this management, I don't see harmony and a cohesive competitor in AA. I and most I fly with think the well has been hopelessly poisoned.

The tools that we need to succeed in both good and bad times don't exist just like in the past. Kirby laughingly said in his letter they plan to change the culture here for the better over time, but that is obviously now absurd. They clearly don't get it and almost certainly never will.

That's what I was saying to him. If he's a DL poolie, they have a better contract and a better management team. I wouldn't abandon that unless they had a specific reason to be at AA. It's about costs and benefits and weighing the risks. It's possible that one day AA could surpass DL, but it won't be anytime soon.

UA has a history of under performing, for decades. Yes, good news that CO mgt took over. So far no change from previous UA history. I wouldn't place bets on them until they actually start out performing their peers.

Thanks all for the advice. I currently live in PHX and have been contemplating moving back to TX within 5 years, so AA would be purely a domicile decision for me. Additionally, until I start at DAL and have an employee and line number, I'm not turning down anything!

We also have a history of under performing. The question us, who will be the worst ? We know for sure we won't be the best !

True. If you want to live in or near DFW, AA would be a logical choice. PHX may or may not be around in the long-run. There's plenty of speculation out there that it might survive simply because there's no room to expand at LAX, but no one really knows for sure.

DFW, MIA, LAX, CLT and PHL/LGA will probably be around for some time.
