American interviews and class dates
#1632
Just got the email inviting me to do the video interview. Wondering if anyone can point me to a post/thread with some info on what to expect? A quick search didn't turn up much, but my google-fu skills aren't the best and I'm currently on a trip in the PRC where internet searches can be rather limited. FWIW 4200(ish)tt, prior mil heavy, current 121/reservist. Thanks in advance.

Six from these:
- Why AA and what do you know about the corporation/culture?
- If selected, you'll be expected to start working out of one of our pilot bases immediately following training. Please tell me about challenges you've experienced commuting or moving to a new city.
- TMAAT when you handled a non-safety related situation that would've normally been handled by someone with more authority, but no one was available.
- TMAAT when a colleague complained to you about a decision you or another colleague made. What did you do?
- What excites you about the opportunity to work for American Airlines?
- What are positives/negatives of being a pilot with AA
- When you are new to an organization, what do you do to learn your customers, coworkers and company?
- TMAAT you dealt with a delay or operational inconvenience to someone
- What do your family and friends say about you pursuing a job with AA
- How did you prepare yourself for your last job?
- Describe a recent conversation with friends/family about this job interview.
- Tell us some Pros and Cons of AA.
- TMAAT you had to explain a delay or inconvenience
- A dude briefs an approach. Then they have you brief it back to them. (you're told you can have a pen and paper).

Might not be 100% current but if you prep for these you'll be ahead of the curve -
American Airlines Pilot Interview Profiles
The video interview gets you to DFW. The video is probably the biggest hurdle since they've expressed interest in you. Test the lighting. Check out what you look like on the camera. What you clothing looks like on camera. The background. Have someone give you mock interviews in the same lighting and have them shoot the questions at you.
Emerald Coast Aviation(?) and Judy Tarver do interview prep.
Good luck.

I just found out how important the video is. Supposedly, you are graded 1-3 and the reviewer has the option to put comments in there too. And pilots are the ones who review/ grade it too. So you need to do well to get 1s. If you get 2 or 3 forgetaboutit! But you will never know what you scored unless you make it past the video and then you can assume you got 1s! so don't f it up!

"so don't f it up!"
More sage advice has never been given! Thanks for the responses so far. Curious as to how those of you who have done the video interview dressed? I'm currently on a layover and won't be home until d+5. I'd like to nock it out before then, but I don't have a suit and the only dress shirt/tie I have with me is my current company's uniform. Pretty sure that wouldn't go over too well. So, is it acceptable to wear khakis and a button down or should I wait till I get home and throw on the interview suit?

Video-interview
To Tanker-driver:
Food for thought and only a suggestion. I like you was also in same situation though my trip was a little on the longer side (14 day trip) no suit😳.
I asked around what to do about this and was told it's okay to not have a suit as there are many pilots caught in similar scenarios.
My solution and fix was to stop by the mall and buy white shirt n tie on overnight. Prep with the Q's posted earlier and relax.
Must have been a good fix as I was offered interview later this month.
Good luck!
