Cool American Hiring Ground School Instructors

Saw this ad on AA website. Was wandering if anyone had any information.

1 Pay
2 working conditions.

1203465*GSW Ground School Instructor Flight FT

Don't they have enough Pilots to fill this position. They were asking for people with a pilot background in 121 Ops. Or are the conditions so bad that they cannot keep a pilots in this position.

Few airlines have line pilots in ground school instructor positions. Too expensive to have a line pilot teaching in the classroom or supervising CBT (computer lab). At AWA we generally had retired airline guys or young guys looking to get a foot in the door. Our sim instructors used to be retired guys as well, or line pilots that had lost their medicals. Check airmen would only do the actual check rides.

Somebody from AA can weigh in but my experience at the AA training center (92-94 working for AE) is that the GND instructors and some of the sim people were all non flight dept personnel.

Correct, all sim instructors are non-flight personnel. They tend to be retired airline or military. They do an overall great job.

GS is taught by non AA pilots. Don't have to be pilots. Mechanics, F/E's, etc.

First week of sims is taught by non seniority list pilots. Like aa73 said, typically retired military/airline with the occasional tweener and sometimes a guy trying to get hired as pilot. They go through training, get type rated, go through the instructor course, and viola, they're off and running. Most are very, very good.

No clue on the pay. Travel benefits? Yes. Don't know if there's a vesting period before you qualify like there was years ago.

ALL of AA's 737-800's have 2 jumpseats. Only a couple have the second cushion. You cannot use the seat without the cushion.

It is $107.50 for the cushion. AMR management ordered them without the 2nd cushion.

I'm kidding about the price, but you get the point.
