Nope. Won't happen. CRM gets better everyday. It's usually what prevents fatal accidents. Remove one of the two, & CRM goes bye-bye. Fatalities happen. It's not the same with one guy on the ground.

The FAA won't allow it because you can't SAFELY eliminate a paid pilot. Not to mention who will fund the airspace to support it. The USA is mega broke. That won't be fixed soon. Who will pay for the technlogy? And what about physiological needs? Do you really think airlines will put a lav in the flight deck? And airlines won't spend money on it without years and years and years of proven reliability. No one is going to be the guinea pig. Not to mention the security aspect. Way too many problems that people don't think of.

I'm sure the 150 folks on US 1549 consider the front end crew "button pushers"........

As poorly as you feel US Airways is managed, they seem to be holding their own compared to the other carriers. Somebody is flying on their airplanes! Clearly, not every passenger holds the disdain for US Airways as you do.

Absolutely - pilot incapacitation would require an unmanned backup, therefore unmanned cockpits would need to be approved first.

Rickair7777 has posted frequently on this, and I post occasionally too about it. Think about the US Air Force Predator UAV program. When I left the USAF in 2010, we had lost about 1/3 of the Predators due to 'lost link' or Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT). There is a severe lack of reliability and safety in the program. Granted, one day we may get there, but that would be after we have driverless cars/trains/boats being commonplace, in my opinion.

I've always been pleasantly surprised when riding on USAir. Even though East & West don't play well together, they run a nice, friendly, surprisingly smooth operation.

FAR Part 25 Transport Category multi-engine jets are already flying around single pilot with passengers.

Well....I've seen the issue handled much better by posters on this board; but yeah - what he (the author) tried to say.

And computers can learn, CRM can happen on the ground and in between controllers, etc.

We got fully automated cars running around in how many states now?
