AMR's media blitz an IRREPARABLE toxic stew

However, I would suggest a small notepad and pen/pencil to be kept with you at all times. In a case like the bozo you described, try to get his name or at least look closely at any ID he (she) is showing, if at all possible. Try to write it or at least something down, even a reminder to get milk on the way home, to make the person think you are taking taking notes for possible future use. Just an idea.
Nothing threatening - just the facts as Jack Webb used to say.

Just a reminder,
The EAL pilots stayed strong in '89; even refusing to go back to work after the MEC, led by Jack Bavis, said, "back to work or lose your job". All the makings of a repeat--emotions on both sides high, hatred and huge financial and operational problems neither side is even looking at.

I appreciate warnings regarding the use of a camera... but I'm having trouble figuring out, reasoning out, WHY it would be a problem. Passengers line up in the terminal area and take pictures all day long. I'm not taking pictures to publish, I'm taking them purely to protect myself and my crew. They'd never see the light of day unless there was some accusation of a false write-up. Kind of like being on the carpet for sick leave abuse, and whipping out a valid prescription bottle dated correctly, or producing a Dr's note.
A cell phone camera is handy for this sort of thing.

Smile and tell them to have a nice day. Maintain professionalism and do not take it personally. The last thing AA pilots need is a You Tube video of a pilot "losing it".

I was deadheading yesterday on a 757 that was having a maintenance delay. Ya I know big surprise, but the seats were ok. Maintenance had found a missing screw that was a no go item and during preflight there were several dents in the cargo door which were not in the log. So it was taking some time to address all of these issues. The captain was making PA's letting everyone know the situation, but the pax had already made up their minds on who was at fault, the pilots. I ran out of duty day and was leaving the plane when some idiot with a Washington State shirt on, maybe a scout trying to get to a Friday night football, told me I should be ashamed to wear the uniform. Boy did that hack me off! I informed that, " I was proud to wear the uniform." Also, informed him that the employees of this company were not to blame for the demise of this company, that management decisions had put us in this situation. An FA backed me up on this and then things started getting worse. A lady and her husband, started yelling at me that the unions were all to blame for this. It was starting to get nasty with other people joining in, so I kept moving and left the plane.
What is happening is that all of AMR's lies are creating a hostile work environment, especially for the pilots. When we have to deadhead and there is some type of delay, we will be blamed no matter what the reason. The pax will get upset and continue to blame us. Not a good working environment to be in.
Be safe and smart.

Could the skipper have him removed? I've witnessed only a couple of incidents where passengers got ugly with cabin crew, and the skipper had the, removed immediately on both occasions. Quite rightly so.
Passengers have an obligation to respect the command authority of the captain, and those who operate on his behalf.
