Or AA's new delay shenanigans of just incremental 15 min delays, that eventually increases your total sit time to over 4 hours, but you won't qualify for a hotel because it was initially just a 2.5 hour sit. I just sat over 6.5 hours, but unable to get a hotel cause the delays just increased 15 min at a time. It was very tiring. Fatigue call came to mind, but they would counter with "how could you be fatigued with one leg and a sit?"

They literally can't counter with anything.

If you're fatigued, or anticipate fatigue en route, just call. It's easy to feel ok on the ground until you're up at cruise and struggling to keep your eyes and ears open. You will get no pushback when you call fatigued. You will only have to fill out a fatigue report (after your rest) which the union can help you with.

If the fatigue is not prior to day 1 leg 1 from your own sleep habits or commuting issues, you will be paid and I highly recommend getting the union to help conjure up the report. They are good at ensuring you use the right verbiage and details for the fatigue committee to review.

Huh. I’ve fatigued out twice this year. Not a peep from anyone except the union rep that helped me fill out the fatigue report. FWIW my trips were both leading red eyes with 2 legs the night after the red eye. Called fatigued before the second post red eye leg both times. YMMV?

Don't know. I admit maybe I don't have the whole story, but he said both writeups were hotel issues and documented.

Yeah I’m calling BS on that as well. I’ve flown with a CA who says he fatigues at least once a month. In the last 8ish months I’ve FT 4 times and I haven’t heard a peep. There is a pattern of abuse and it’s not coming from my end…

The optimizer is literally designed to push us to our absolute limits and squeeze every bit of efficiency out of us. Why pilots aren’t calling FT more often baffles me.

Some guys call fatigued immediately after getting reassigned, often during the same phone call. Gotta play the game to a certain extent…. Actually think about it for a minute,
(or hours on a long sit) and go “yup, no bueno”

Are there still pilots calling fatigued now that they pay premium?

I have noticed a drastic decrease in people posting, " Got RA'd so I called fatigued" in the groups ever since the new contract.

RA pay is great. You're already at work, might as well make some extra money for the day.
