annoyed that they put a vmax in for august. Is going to make it a bit more of a puzzle.

Not sure what you mean by "pilot to pilot." You cannot go over VMAX via pilot-to-pilot trade in FOS. You can do that in TTS with posted trips, yes.

Oh I don’t know. A lot of people are upgrading at about the two year mark now. It’s kind of the new normal. But remember, most of those folks were Captains at a regional or long time MIL aircraft commanders.
I came from a MIL FW background, followed by 2 years as a regional FO, then made CA at AA in two years. I think the folks who were at AA for 15 years before they could upgrade had MORE time to prepare themselves for the upgrade, but two years on property is enough if you watch and learn as an FO.

I never understood the quick upgrade hate. Very few if anybody on property should be considered to be low experience or low time. Plenty of experience in the regionals before people come in here. In the last few months I have flown with new hires from NetJets Alaska Spirit and a myriad of regionals. Many of them there for 5 years to 20 years.

I think it's mostly just sour grapes since half the people on property had to wait 20 years to upgrade.

There's some of that, but that's significantly exacerbated by new FOs that don't know their history or their audience.
