Default Union paid “if needed?”

Anyone know anything about this? RSV pilots basically all month "SIN" but for union work. Show available but are bypassed.

Wouldn’t this just be a more economical way for union volunteers to work union business during a reserve month? Would seem to save the union money vs buying off an entire reserve block like they do with LH trips…

the problem is the example I know of is that this individual had union business on the 8th and 9th but was bypassed all month for 76 hours.

Have you not realized it yet? While APA does perform its core function for the most part, though IMO not well, it's essentially made up of "volunteers" that stay home and do low level admin type work for $300K-$400K/yr. There are all sorts of scams that can be utilized to completely change your schedule with just a couple PU days a month.

Its basically a schedule enhancement role for people that work for APA. That's why pretty much the only people depending APA in this ALPA drive are people that work for APA in some capacity or another.

At my previous ALPA carrier the elected reps bid to work all holidays because they had all their trips dropped for union work. Ended up with 2-3 weeks of paid off time over every holiday.

This is nothing exclusive to APA and I would suggest it comes as a perk of the work.

I would agree that we could instead pay quality lawyers to represent us for half the money we pay to drop trips but where's the fun in that?

You really think this is exclusive to APA? That is the MO for ALPA “volunteers” everywhere. You guys are delusional in thinking that ALPA is any different in all of this stuff.

ALPA has more resources and has an easier ability to recall reps that’s it’s true benefit.

where is that happening now? Pretty sure most big alpa carriers ban that practice.

and I’m not sure being an elected rep equates to “time off.”
