Default New reserve system

Hey does anyone have any insight on the new reserve system that is starting in September?

If you bid reserve and plan on continuing to do so, plan to fly more often.

Unless you’re senior. I think the #1 strategy will be to be senior, bid weekends, and work shorter blocks. This will always ensure someone junior to you with the same or more days will be available. The wrinkle will be optimizing RAPs.

When asked during the APA Town Hall last week the answer was "we really don't know". God help us all.

Absolutely agree. I think seniority is going to be more of a player than it is now. However, at the end of the day you still only have x amount of reserves and y amount of open time. It will definitely change my bidding strategy and it may take me a few months to get it right. Worse case I go back to a line. I'm middle of the pack in my bid status and live in base and have had a pretty good quality of life. It's not for everyone. I have a friend close by that's similar in seniority but hates not knowing his schedule. On average he works about 3 to 4 more days a month than I do but he's fine with that.

The problem with the new system is the 'x' number of reserves is going to be less, because it will be more efficient. So y:x ratio is higher which means more flying for reserves and less pilots on the list. It is what it is, unfortunately.

That’s by design, to cut down on the high average line value. More line holders with more days off, but lower credit windows.

I think long call will have enough people to actually utilize the blocks. I expect short call to be 'open' because only a couple pilots seem to have the same number of days available. We shall see.

On average, the pilots on reserve will fly more in the new system than in the old. That's just the nature of having a more efficient system. But yeah, there will be outlyers on both ends of the spectum.
