Well, you can't have a more efficient reserve system with less people on reserve, while keeping the amount of lineholders and ALV the same.

Agreed.

Honestly, being a junior FO that commutes in for SCR, I'd much rather fly more frequently, as opposed to sitting around the crash pad wondering if I'll get used.

Ditto Brother! I feel your pain. Im SCR and sitting waiting around for the "fire alarm" to sound sucks. I am praying for LCR soon. However, with the summer season, more Senior guys are bidding for a Line as the SC gets used up and they can't just sit at home and get a check (don't blame them, good strategy). Hopefully the new Reserve won't be so bad and they will bid back to SCR in the Fall and we can at least get LC or even a Line. We'll see...

Everyone keeps saying it will be better for senior pilots, but that won't always be the case. When there is a 2 day trip that pops up, and the only 2 day reserve pilot is a senior guy (even if he/she has flown a bunch that month), they are going to get it. It will screw over all parties equally.

For me, if i don't get a line, I'll probably just stay SCR. LCR sounds appealing, but if I get an assignment that the 12 (or 14) hour callout window falls within a time frame that there's no flights available for me to commute in on, I'm hosed. Since I have the assurance of the crash pad, I'll likely just stay SCR until I can be a line holder. If I can become senior on SCR, I can at least have a better shot at better days off.

You know, you can call CM if you can't get there in time and go back on LCR. That's a "thing". Schedulers know this and at those weird times in the middle of the night, they will usually just hold the trip for a few more hours and then assign it to SCR.

APA really sucks in terms of negotiating a contract and our CBA never said when crew scheduling has to assign a trip. They can hold it for hours before assigning it. I have seen a trip in opentime for 15+ hours, and they hold it until 2 hours before report and then all of a sudden assign it to someone last minute.

the aggressive pickup options will be much better. You’ll be able to bid to fly from the bottom of the list, if that’s what you want to do.

this is far too simplistic of a view. In your scenario, If you’re in the 2 day bucket, you also won’t be moving up the list every time a 1 day trip is filled

You can if you let the retirements flow and don't hire.

Aggressive pickup doesnt apply to reserves except for OG flying at company option, right? If you are talking about proffering for trips, we can do that now. For example, are you saying someone can proffer for a trip that the pilot would otherwise not be called for (To take or pass?).
