A good friend of mine showed me his schedule for August. Junior 737 FO. He had 2 trips that started on his reserve days and went into days off for premium. Another friend on the A320 showed me something similar. I guess they’re lying to me.
Carry on undercutting each other though. Your management appreciates your sacrifice. Somebody has to be fourth, after all.

Used to be a small chance of getting it on days with a lot of OT. But now that chance is next to nil with the bucket system. That’s because now not only does a trip need to be available after the LCs are used but now that trip has to match the number of days available. In order to get a trip that doesn't match your days people in other buckets would have had to been used.
We were sold that this was a better system. We were told that the new system would make it easier to get the trips we want. We were lied to. APA has given up so much over the last 10 years (two contracts) without much to gain other than pay, which was always going to match UA/DL, that it should be obvious to everyone. APA is severely outmatched by AA corporate. Time to bring in the power and resources that comes with ALPA. Don’t let the mission hackers and the “you’ll be senior someday son” crowd tell you different.

yes this is a different order of assignment so it will take getting used to. Senior (and mid senior) reserve bidders should love it. For junior bidders, looks like this system has more ways to make additional money if that’s what they want and also to fly instead of sitting in a crash pad. RAS was negotiated in 2015 and ready for roll out…it was coming regardless. Let’s look on the bright side and maybe share some tips to make things better for reserve bidders.

Sure, I’ve scored a few during the summer. If you worked at American you’d know they’re awarding Zero Time Lines during the shoulder months. You’d also know Open Time is relatively scarce for the month of September, and probably October. The weather that creates IROPs premium flying opportunities is non-existent in the Fall months. Also our RAS has multiple restrictions prior to being awarded premium into your reserve bucket.
I understand where you’re coming from logically but when you have no context on the current circumstances because you don’t work at American it makes you look like an ass clown.
Hence, why I was discussing a separate strategy the next few months to make some extra dough without working harder. Hey, thanks for your condescending remark pretending you know better! I wonder what Air Line you work for 😂😂

DFW FO OT is dry as a bone. I’m doing reserve and somehow relatively senior each day, so it’s worked out for me so far. Definitely needs some enhancement of filters and pass all needs to be re-worked. I suspect once people get used to the system, it will be a lot better. The software improvements should come before the summer, when everyone will be flying a lot.

Does it happen? Yeah sure but it's certainly going to be a lot less common into the shoulder seasons. I've noticed reserves are starting to settle for OG more and more too.

I'll never understand why the widget heads think they can come on every other airline (not air line) forum and tell us how the industry works. Hell the guy was probably flying an RJ at 9E 2 years ago. But sure tell me how how reserve are AA works my lord.
And they wonder why they have the reputation they have.

You have to get really lucky with weather to get any sort of premium nowadays. I'm about 45% on my seat and got one last month but it lined up with a major storm event in base so that helped. As a reserve it's pretty tough. August had a lot of weather events which helped.
