In the last couple years on two separate occasions (that I know of), on two separate carriers, colleagues of mine were asked to assist when one pilot became incapacitated on the flight deck. Neither were familiar with the type but made enough of a difference to lend a hand, primarily providing the RT reducing the workload of the PF. Any assistance would be welcomed in certain circumstances. I prefer to avoid single pilot ops in transport aircraft if another uniformed pilot is available.

I always make an attempt to introduce myself to the crew out of common respect and courtesy. I would think I am not alone in the ability to use my own judgement to determine if doing so would be interrupting the crew.
