I can relate to the OP. While at the WO, I had a flight with an obundant number of DHs (both mainline and WO) during an IROPS sitiuation while dealing with a separate dispatch and maintenance situation, both of which required seperate coordiation with the rampers/ground support.
I was busy. Most of it was on the phone. Crewmembers kept popping into the cockpit (we did used to call it that) over and over again, "hey, high, I'm ...., ". Me, talking into the phone "excuse me, what did you say...". Random guy who just showed up on the cockpit not realising my question wasn't to him, "Oh, high, I'm...". Me into the phone "what?"
After a few of these, the FO just turned sideways in his seat and made it his job to shield them from me. My favorite FO ever btw. If he reads this, he knows who he is and I think we flew ONCE. Thank you sir!
That said, the OP's post seems a bit over the top. Yeah, it's not necessary to say high if you're deadheading. No, we're not normally busy enough for it really to be the kind of interuption I described above. There are a lot of other things I'd rather complain about than that. But come on guys... surely you can think of a situation where it was wholey unwelcome!
No, I didn't just call you Shirley...

Nope sorry, unless he's typed and current on the airplane, knows all the flows/procedures/callouts, knows how to set up for a CAT III approach, knows where every switch on the overhead panel is and can run the QRH while I fly the plane... useless to me. 🙄
