I think management was banking on a lighter version of the NEA with JetBlue. Maybe that is officially done. The flights are absolutely packed. I can't believe a management team can F this up this bad. How can they keep their jobs? We have been aiming to catch Delta for the last 11 years and we have drifted backward. For those at the bottom I would say prepare. Prepare to be underwhelmed by unity among the pilot group. The junior will be forgotten.
Different product and market, but it's the same idea here at Spirit. Flights are mostly full and we're still losing money (adjusting for NEO issues).

Definitely rough to hear. I think I'll be stuck at Spirit for a while longer.

I don’t understand. Delta is still hiring and they’ve hired more than American this year already.

This is very odd with 70 retirements a month, either we are cutting a lot of block hours or they plan to run it lean for while and pass out OG/PM like it's 2022.

The guys in training should largely be able to cover the retirements the rest of the year. With the reserve system changing, I think they can afford to cut hiring and let things recalibrate the rest of this year before getting back into it in 2025.

It’s even more strange given we just had the December vacancy close on Saturday.

My only non-draconian guess is that they saw how much training capacity was going to be needed to open the 3 new bid statuses and resulting shuffle and saw no room for new hires this fall in the schoolhouse.

Any other massive change in strategy or staffing would surely cause a re-bid.

Good point, definitely makes sense with the timing of the bid.

Delta is making a ton of money, and has very good management.

AA is not making money and has crap management.

Simple as that.

Or the fact that Delta is currently completely immune to the 787 and Max issues at Boeing.

Maybe Delta is going to steal the trophy from United as the "hire 'til the day you furlough" airline (air line?) of the next decade.

Delta employees also care more about making customers happy and not costing the company unneccesarily. They don't have a half dozen unions protecting employees with crap attitudes. They get it done to boost their profit sharing, we sit around and let the operation burn.
