average age of a new hire is 43 (was 39 3 year agos)

Oh wow, that's actually older than me. At least I wouldn't feel old in class lol. I have a 4 year degree as well.

Wow. Works out for them I guess. Fewer years at top pay with no shot of widebody CA

I had multiple 60+ year olds in my class. I was also under this 43 avg. I think the oldest we had was 63 and the youngest was 26. The avg was definitely around 40.

For who? The company is not saving anything as there will probably never be a Widebody CA at AA who is not already at the 12 years pay scale. The reason the company (and all airlines for that matter) are doing this is three fold. First the age range of the candidates is much greater now then it was 20 or 30 years ago. So if they are going to hire top quality canidates they are forced to hire from all age ranges. Second there are tougher laws against age discrimination. And finally and the most important, they do not want to set themselves up for another bell curve disaster they just experienced by hiring only young people, have years of stagnation, then have almost everybody get to the retirement age at once. They will strategically hire to limit retirements to around 300 to 500 a year.

2024 hire here as well.

I can only speak for one class, but the average age for my Indoc was 38.

Ah that makes sense, and I agree.

I initially read it as “nobody currently on property with less than 12 years here will see WB CA”.

Are there WB CAs (true wide body, not 763/321XLR) at UAL or DAL with less than 12 years at their company? Maybe FedEx/UPS?

At least according to Widget Seniority, the junior WB CA is a NYC 330 pilot at ~4500, which is 2007 DOH for pre-merger DAL.
