Ok… how many NH’s per class and how many classes going through October. You’re a smart guy right? Delta is hiring slightly over 1,000 pilots this year. They could run a few classes with 100 NH’s through the end of the month to meet their quota and it would make zero difference compared to “classes scheduled through October”.

You’re right, that settles it. Industry fine, only AA is screwed… because Avelo and Sun country are hiring…

Nobody said anything about “only AA is screwed”. What are you talking about?? I’m sure AA will be just fine. Your persistent retirement wave is a huge benefit for your hiring landscape.

5 classes, I believe, every other week-ish, of about 45 per class. Ish.

Yes, Avelo and Sun Country, two airlines who’s combined pilot group is equal to less than what one legacy has hired in 2024.

Whattya think there, my double breasted brethren, has hiring slowed dramatically industry wide recently?

Of course it has, especially compared to the frenzied sugar-high of the Covid recovery free-for-all.

But he answered the exact question you asked, then you try to skewer him for it.

Technically correct, practically false. If I said PIT ramp is a ghost town, I don’t actually mean Casper is hanging out there.

Two tiny airlines maybe hiring means **** all. Valiant of you to defend your fellow coworkers honor though.

They really don't get how this looks to others. With regard to hiring... if anyone thinks that DL,AA,UAL is going to stop hiring for an extended time and others will continue to hire hasn't been a part of this industry long enough. It's always been good for one, good for all...the opposite as well.

Except that DL is not “going to stop hiring for an extended time”. We have returned to pre-Covid hiring levels of about 1000-1100/year, and after onboarding that number by Oct, DL will take a 2-month break over the holidays, as has been done before.

Separately, reports are that UA is continuing hiring. But I can’t vouch for that because I don’t work there.

Not saying everything is rosy, but it’s certainly not as doom and gloom (for the industry) as some of you seem to be saying. Spirit’s unfortunate furloughs are more to do with the -NEO engine issues than anything wider, for example. I have to imagine that AA’s mandatory retirements will drive hiring in the new year, but you all would know far better than I. For the Industry writ large, after the Legacy’s all hired ~200/month for nearly 3 years, things absolutely had to come back to a sustainable level for the whole ecosystem. Aka a return to something more “normal”. But that’s not doom and gloom (individual carrier’s smaller issues notwithstanding)

Man you just want to be angry don’t you. You’re right, everyone needs to go to truck driving school, the pilot industry is over.
My point is that saying no one is hiring is false, but double down all you want. Because boy does it feel good to be right and talk crap to people from a keyboard.
Anyone who thought the hiring environment post Covid was sustainable was crazy. It only makes sense with delivery issues that the whole industry is going to have to take a deep breath at some point. And that point is now.
And as Fangs pointed out, I never even hinted that AA is screwed.
