haHaHa you have got to be kidding me.
No I will never ever ever do that. It ISNT my job and never will be to make PAs at the gate. Heck there is only on PA required in fom to be made in the plane. Any clown that stands up by the gate to make a PA rightfully deserves to be made fun of. This thankfully isn't delta where that stuff is encouraged. Shame on you for even making that suggestion.
Pilots are not in customer service.

"This thankfully isn't delta" is a moronic statement when they are printing money and absolutely crushing us. People will pay them a boatload of money because of little things like that.
For all of our sakes, I hope you're getting ready to retire soon.

Excuse me? Surely you are not that tone deaf. How many times do you need to hear from friends and relatives about their great experiences on DAL before you start to consider your own airline?
B6 tells us from day one they are not passengers, they are customers. Think what you will of our operation, but the fact of the matter is any airline can come in and undercut your prices or our prices, if they want to. What keeps people coming back is their experience. Especially younger people who value experiences and time over money. Even more so, helping a passenger who's having a bad experience will go a long way toward loyalty. You need not even solve their problem, just the fact that the pilot tried to help them will have them talking about it at the dinner table. That makes them come back. That makes them sign up for the credit card. If you treat your job as bus driver, your customers will too.
It takes very little effort to make a stand up PA in the plane to let people know why you're late or broken. I've never done one at the gate, but if the GA asked me to I'd be happy to do so. It's no different than a stand up in the back of the plane. Bitterness and negativity like yours is a poison you serve yourself.

I wish it wasn’t a separate app, but it’s not absolutely terrible to switch, just plain terrible. 😂

Pilots ARE in customer service. It's literally in the FOM, 1g.2.3. Check it out. If you aren't thinking about customer service, you aren't doing your job. Why would you not do something simple to make the customers happy and help out the team? Too busy taking a nap while waiting out an EDCT or waiting for maintenance?

I make sure i'm not there more than 45 mins prior to depature.
Unlike those fools you always see standing by the door when the plane hasn't even landed yet.
Our repsonisbilty begins and ends at the boarding door.
We're printing money as well.
Everyone is making money.
We make the same pay as united and delta.
and no... they aren't gonna fly delta or united because they hand out trading cards or make PAs they fly airlines for price and reliability. United, delta and AA all have the same fleets and seats, it's all about the points and hubs.

Let me guess, because it's "not your job"? Only problem is, it is your job.
Our counterparts at DL and UA are making more money than we are through profit sharing, being given more WB opportunities, and being cheapstaked less by management because their management thinks investing in the pilot group is worthwhile. Let's stop undervaluing ourselves by being lazy. This job is easy and pays well, there's no excuse.

We have nothing to do with that and at the end of the day we have the same amount of 787/777 350/330 sized aircraft as delta. The 321s now pay what the 767/757 pay. It's not the size of the a/c it's the pay.
It is easy and we do get paid well to do the job we're required to do. So I don't understand why people like you are trying to add all this extra nonsense we're not required to do. Do what you're required to do and nothing more. You're don't get extra for being a managament stooge (unless you become a checkairmen). Skypath, FMS+ are all optional apps too btw. Want me to use them, pay me.

Pretty much, hold bording till we're all set.
You're right it's not my job.
Probably because they don't have to share it with 100k other people. Doesn't matter if you wear your blazer and hat in phx during the summer while handing out trading cards while making gate PAs. You'll never get their profit sharing.

You represent a lot of what's wrong with our pilot group. Lazy, resigned, always blaming our problems on everyone else. Take some responsibility, have some pride in the job. I'm not telling you to come in on your DFP to clean cabins, all I'm saying is if you're already at the airport then doing basic customer service things won't kill you.
Some of you seriously talk about the company like it's the enemy. What a moronoic and simplistic way of thinking. Don't like management? Understandable. But don't take it out on the customers and don't take it out on other employees. Do your part, take care of the people you're paid to take care of. We need them.
Oh, and by the way, it's in the FOM. Do your job.
