Somehow there is a lack of understanding among the ranks at AA about where our money comes from, and how to get more of it.

We need a leader at the company AND the union that will make the airline more profitable and reliable, and will ensure those responsible are paid for doing so.

It's not the unions job to make the airline more profitable. That falls solely on management.

“The men who helped Dave Behncke create ALPA never thought of them* selves as troublemakers. They were, in fact, good “company men,” loyal and conscientious, with more of a stake in the survival of the airlines for which they worked than the owners themselves had. As Rube Wagner put it: “We pilots were the company. Some pilots who didn’t want to join ALPA tried to make believe that if the pilots were for a union, they weren’t for the company. But ALPA pilots were for the company way ahead of the company!””

100%.
The guy who thinks that the union needs to help the company become profitable will be the guy clamoring to gut the contract to "save the company."

THere's a difference between the union advocating for doing a good job, safely transporting people from A to B... and making the company profitable.

Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying. As pilots, we all want the airline to succeed. That means we come to work and do our part to make the company successful, our livelihoods depend on that. What I'm saying is the strategic errors management makes regarding the direction of the company are not ours or the unions to fix.

The 737NG does not taxi well on one engine. You need to run the other engine up to 40-50% at typical weights just to get moving. Blowing away any fuel savings you might realize by going out on one.

The Max is a different beast and I SE taxi quite a bit more on that one... not so much for fuel savings but because it produces so much thrust with two running that you're constantly on the brakes.

My experience with 35 years in the industry was that the loudest, most radical anti company don't give a inch guys were the first to plead with the union to do anything to save their jobs when reality hit home.

This place is caustic. Someone is always ****ed off or dragging their feet. We need new leadership from top to bottom. Someone has to clean this place up or it's going to slowly sink. Some say we are too big to fail. I disagree. It won't be quick like the iceberg and the Titanic. It will be slow. Losing market share continuously until we are irrelevant. I will be long gone but for those still here you should be wary. I have been here a long time. The rudder has been missing on the ship since Robert Crandall retired in 1998.
Even if all it takes is just one more button push I still would rather take the slightly easier path.
The fact that these people and the Kapo pilots want me to single engine taxi is reason enough to always run both engines and apu as long as possible.
Some of you people really need to start thinking of yourselves first. I have no problem not extending duty time even if i'm number 1 for takeoff.

Troll. There's no way someone is actually this ridiculous.

Just made the account, too.
